boys are so hard! my boy wants denver broncos everything and i cannot bring myself to break out the orange paint for him. i wanna throw up just thinking about it.

Mary, do what I did when our boys were little. We had simple wall color and comforters, but pillows, linens, accessories…we pretty much went to town with dinosaurs. I still pick up some little dinosaurs and send them to my oldest son…he's in the Army ;D it turned out to be a very good compromise for us…and there was that dinosaur border around the ceiling…learning world or something like that..Discovery Toys maybe? I bought a bunch of the pics of dinos (they were in 3' lengths) and laminated them and up they went on the wall. worked for us! Good luck. I've got Hello Kitty stuff stuck on the walls in my youngest daughter's room…with pushpins ;/

I know what I want, but apparently it’s not that simple. I don’t get it, someone please explain? Why do we need 3 more?

It’ll push up repayments on a $500,000 loan by roughly $250 a month and on a $1,000,000 loan roughly $450 a month.

(This is just speculation but it’s all I see in my news feed today). It was a prediction for August, September and November to get the cash rate up to $5% (which equates to .25 x3 increases.

What’s the deal? Isn’t employment strong? But I get it, inflation is still high. About 37% of people have a mortgage, 30% own outright and the rest is rental. Would this mean more rent increases? So many questions.

I wish I’d known that every task takes twice (or three times!) as long as you think, especially when you’re self-renovating. I found that most of the time is spent on moving things out of the way, prepping the area and tidying, rather than on the task itself.

From clearing out the space, protecting furniture, and setting up all the necessary tools, to the meticulous clean-up after each day’s work, these ‘behind-the-scenes’ activities can double your workload. It’s not just about laying tiles or painting walls; it’s the setup and takedown that turn a two-hour job into a whole day affair. This understanding has been crucial in adjusting my expectations and planning! I know now not to expect I’m going to work at double speed like the Instagram reels I share.

For anyone embarking on this journey, remember: patience and planning are just as important as the renovation work itself!

Cypress pine floorboards ➡️ This task wasn’t all DIY, but it certainly transformed this charming little house. The 50-year-old carpet had to go, and the vinyl cork was a nightmare to deal with. We also removed all the nails, strips, and skirting boards. Then, we hired a professional to handle the more challenging tasks—filling cracks, polishing, and sanding. It took about five days, but he did a fantastic job. The work was done in two living rooms and three bedrooms, all finished with a durable satin clear coat that is incredibly hard-wearing!

In my 20s, I thought I had everything under control. I was married by 22, had finished having children by 29, and I possessed a university degree that I never actually used. Back then, I was just going through the motions, firmly believing I knew better than anyone else. I thought I was so mature, but I truly knew nothing. Little did I know that 20 years later life looked much different.

I spent all of my 30s battling a chronic illness that sidelined me for much of the decade. Although I did have a brief stint on a TV show, most of that time was overshadowed by being unwell and out of work.

Now, in my 40s, I often reflect on those days with a sense of sadness. I miss having little kids. When they were glued to me. These days, it takes a lot more effort to get them to spend time with me, and I cherish every moment I get!

I’ve come to understand that life isn’t just about smooth sailing; the challenges are necessary. The stops and starts—the red and yellow lights—are where we grow and learn. Today, I’m focused on acquiring new skills, working hard, and building something meaningful for myself, all while trying to appreciate myself a little more. ✌🏻
