What should we do during a new moon?

The new moon is the phase that is invisible to us here on Earth because the moon is between the earth and the sun, and its illuminated side is facing away from us. The new moon marks the beginning of the lunar cycle, the movement of the moon through its different phases.

I am always drawn to a new moon phase especially because I can feel the energy to set intentions. I’ve skipped a couple of months because there has just been so much going on, but this week something is telling me I need to stop and take some time to sit.

The new moon is a time of initiation and new beginnings. It is the time to plant a seed of what you want to grow in your life. So, at this time you can make a wish, write down an intention, a promise, or a vow. This is an extremely simple practice ANYONE can do even if you’re not in to meditation, crystals or the universe! BUT if you feel a bit unsettled a simple practice of sitting still tonight for just 20 mins and thinking about what you’d like to bring in to your life is pretty easy.

The new noon offers us its energy of intention, to rid ourselves of the negative habits in our life.

New moons represent the beginning of a cycle – an invitation to start fresh, call in intentions, and set the tone for the next cycle.

The new moon is now, so it’s a good time to write down new beginnings and wash away the old. Intention creates more clarity in your life. I felt like now is a perfect time for me to draw a line in the sand. You don’t need to do anything elaborate if you don’t want to. Just sitting with your thoughts is a good start!

Here are some ways you can enjoy the new moon phase tonight.

Give yourself 20-30 mins of peace and quiet. Some people use mediation, music, essential oils, crystals, or smudge the air…

  1. Disconnect and unplug
  2. Clear the body
  3. Make a wish
  4. Write down what you need
  5. Meditate through that wish
  6. Go to bed feeling lighter

→ So when I say ‘clear the body’ it’s just as simple as sitting still, and visualising the stress/worry falling away. Just try it for a few minutes. For me, I do put on essential oils and usually hold a crystal.

→ When you feel calm, get a pen and paper. Write down 2 lists – one for things to let go of and one for things you want to bring in. You can do this anyway you like! Scribble, or bullet points. Whatever you want. The Universe loves specificity and also hand-written requests. There is an incredible amount of power that flows from your pen onto the page. Asking the universe for what you want is a very powerful practice.

→ When your list is complete spend 10-15 minutes meditating on it. Go through each item one at a time and focus on how it feels in your body and how it will feel once you have manifested it. If you’re not a fan of mediation then that’s cool! Just simply sit with your list quietly and repeatedly think of each item (either letting it go, or bringing it in).

→ What do you do with this list? That is up to you! I put it outside under a crystal under the air for the night. Then I will put it in an area where it can remain undisturbed for 28 days, of the entire moon cycle.
