We’re growing some veggies

vegies

My boys have thrown together a veggie patch and they love watching it grow… We had a patch of dirt on the dead-side of our house and it was the perfect spot for a vegetable garden. We weren’t sure how they’d go around there, but they have really taken to it! We’ve put in strawberries, tomatoes, carrots, lettuce, zucchini, silverbeet, pumpkin and watermelon…

They lovingly head out there after school every day to water them and talk about what’s grown. The tomatoes are going great guns!

We couldn’t find any watermelon punnets anywhere in Wagga would you believe so we decided to through in a few seeds and already they are taking off!

I can’t wait to pick a few lettuce leaves. I buy lettuce all the time and it ends up such a waste because we don’t eat the huge packets they come in. I just want to be able to pick a few here and there. Perfect!

Look, a couple of strawberries… My littlest kid is most happy because strawberries are his favourite.

We’re always looking to give the kids something to do outside and a veggie patch is perfect for their ages.

Do you grow veggies? Any tips?

Have fun with it, Kat! We went all gung ho last year and planted up a storm and then got too busy and didn’t bother keeping the garden growing. We didn’t bother this year, but I’m going to consider the odd carrot or two. Carrots from the garden are the biz (and beans – need some beans too). x

Ooo beans – yes must add them!

Looking great guys…nothing compares to the taste of homegrown goodies 🙂 A great lesson to teach your boys Katrina…they will always remember when they grew their own produce. You may find that the watermelons and pumpkins will spread like crazy 🙂 Good luck with it all…just a tad bit envious. x

My grandma has always had a vege patch, and even when she moved from the family home to her little unit she still grows veges in her back garden. I love visiting her for dinner and having fresh veges! I also have very fond memories of helping Gran pick the veges from the garden and one of my all time favourite things to do was help dig up the potatoes! Freshly dug potatoes are the BEST!!!

I planted strawberries in a pot this past weekend. I can’t wait to see them start to take off. I also can’t wait to have my own home so I can grow a nice big veggie garden 🙂 xx

Ohhh I love your garden, it’s absolutely adorable! I love to grow strawberries myself and the best tip I can give you (if you’re even looking for a tip), is to plant them in full sun…but I’m assuming you already have lots of sun there!
