Wednesday House update : we have frames!

There were crickets at my block last week (giving that slab some time to rest!), but now it’s all systems go! Look out! I squealed and squealed. Now we can really SEE the house coming along. We can visualise rooms and spaces. I can feel the flow of the house. The kids have picked their rooms and I am so excited to see it coming together.

I am still nervous about my floating wall which will house a double sided fireplace (which we won’t put in until I have some more $$). It will be my favourite part of the house (if I get it right!). Fingers crossed.

All kids rooms are having high skinny windows so it doesn’t restrict furniture placement.

I want to give a shout out to my builder. If you’re in Wagga, you’ll know Quinlivan Homes (their website is being rebuilt). Although Quinny has moved north to the beach, his business is still based here in Wagga and he is coming home every few weeks to oversee the house. He is fabulous and is letting me do whatever I like. I’m bossy and overbearing (I admit that!) but my husband pulls me in to line lots haha! Mark’s wife Jodie (she blogs here – go and see their monster house!) is the colour coordinator, so she rings me to tell me when things need to be decided and chosen. I’m getting everything signed off now so we don’t let Christmas hold us up with products and goodies.

Thanks for all your excitement every time I mention the house. I’m glad you love reading about it and watching it come to life. Wait ’til you see me painting the entire outside of the house – it’s weatherboard remember. That will be fun (maybe?). I might need Keith to come and set up my scaffolding. On that note, Taubmans have come on board in a big way, so thanks Taubmans. You’ll see me using all of their products inside and out.

Yesterday I finalised all of my internal doors, the front door and all of the hardware. They asked me at Hudson’s which hinges I wanted for the doors??? I said “I don’t care, just pick them.” They laughed at me! Really, I don’t care. I just want to pick the pretty things, not the hinges! It might be a big deal to some, but to me, as long at they were chrome and they held the door up, what else do I need? 😉

I’m having lots of fun picking things. I already knew what I wanted before I started building, so it hasn’t been too hard.

Oh, and if you’re a supplier it’s not too late to jump on board with the house! Plenty of blog love and social media promo for you! I’m generous and will give you lots in return… (cheeky plug I know).

Have a great day! I’ll be back next week with another house post when they start putting the roof trusses on. Exciting!

I remember when we built our house in Brisbane that when the slab was first put down it looked too small and we thought there is no way we can fit the house on this but then when they put the frames up it looked much better and we could see how everything would fit.

Very exciting house stage! It’s the best feeling to walk around the “frames” through all the rooms! I love building, would love to do it again! Mx

That’s coming along so nicely and fast! How exciting for you! I would be the same about hinges, who thinks about those really?

Very exciting Katrina. I’m so glad you’ve got a great builder, it makes such a big difference to the process and the finished product.
The boys must have been very excited about their rooms to not fight over who was getting which. Well, I’m assuming they didn’t fight.
Fingers crossed for the weather to remain fine.

They didn’t fight (for once)… although I reckon someone will change their mind and then it will be alllll on!

I am so happy for you Katrina!
I remember walking around in our frame 3 years ago and being so excited to see it all coming together. We had to pick everything before the block was even scraped, but I would have preferred to take my time and go with the flow a bit more in choosing the fittings as you are. By the time it came to fit out I couldn’t remember what taps we chose or anything lol.

I am so glad you have such an awesome builder, a good builder is worth their weight in gold as we have found out. Unfortunately our dream has turned into a nightmare and we are fighting to get our now falling apart house fixed.

Thank you for the updates, I’m a sticky beak when it comes to houses!

Oh no, that’s not good news Melissa! Hope it all works out ok. X

Thanks Katrina, we aren’t giving up the fight! Oh, and we run a painting business so I sympathise with you about the weatherboard painting, that was the main reason why we didn’t use them, even though hubbys a painter lol! Love, love, love them though. We did however score a high pitched surfmist roof, and have no need for air conditioning whatsoever, it is awesome. Good choice.
