The versatility of concrete kitchen benches

If you’re looking for a kitchen bench top material that is both modern and easy to care for, then concrete is well worth considering. Concrete will pretty much last a lifetime, and thanks to its low maintenance factor is fast becoming the choice for kitchen bench tops. To ensure its durability, it must be installed and sealing it properly is so important.

What I like most about concrete is that it works with many different decor themes. The obvious one that springs to mind is an industrial themed kitchen. But surprisingly it works well with many other themes –  Scandinavian, coastal, classic, country charm, colourful – concrete seamlessly works with them all. Take a look below –

You can get a whole range of colours too which I like, which makes concrete even more versatile!

There are plenty of DIY tutorials available on the internet also if you feel like giving it a go. Maybe I should add one to my ‘projects on the go list’? Ha! I do think it is one job that is better left to the professionals!

The first image you have there looks to be caesar stone. There’s a few very realistic concrete look laminates, as well. Be aware there are quite a few negatives of solid concrete work surfaces, particularly for food prep. Nood is a company that creates beautiful stone surfaces. Owned by a fellow block alumni.

I would steer very clear away from real concrete benchtops. We had them installed (3 times because they kept warping) and when they were finally level they were ruined within a week. They are sealed and waxed but normal kitchen use still ruins them. Any oil splatters and wine glass marks cannot be removed. The edges also chip easily and cracks form. Within 6 months we had a huge kitchen bench that was horrible to look at. It was a very expensive mistake for us. The bathrooms were ok but I wouldn’t use them in a bathroom again.

I just wanted to warn you as I dont want to see anyone waste their time or money on them.
