The Block Octagon: It’s kitchen week!

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Last night on The Block it was Kitchen week! The reveals saw Caro and Kingi take out another first place win with a score of 29/30.

The high-tech kitchen featured a touch-screen splash back and an island bench rendered by Kingi. The kitchen used the space well and it was huge. It did nothing for me though – I like character! This may have felt high-tech, but I think it was cold.

“I love it when the kitchen feels like the hero of the apartment,” Neale said. Shaynna called it hot, sexy and sophisticated.

“That is wow factor; I haven’t used that phrase in a long time,” Neale said. The judges didn’t give them the win because of the size of the island bench and the height of the range hood. What? I think they did the best job with their weird angles. Shouldn’t that bench near the view just give them the win?? It was awesome! What about the butler’s pantry that no one else had? C’mon. Plus it was light and bright and more welcoming than the black, grey and boring kitchens…

I wanted to see their finished living room too – did I miss that part?

They delivered a sleek black and white kitchen. Romy liked their attention to detail with their handles and cupboard doors, but she questioned the functionality of the sink’s position and the potential danger of the extreme corner of the island bench. “You will get buyers who will be looking at this apartment for a family and go this is really dangerous,” Shaynna agreed said.

I think it was a good kitchen, but nothing special.

I agree with them and didn’t think the island under the windows was done properly. However, they definitely had the best colour scheme going. Their pendants were a little small too I think. I’m not sure about that herb thingy in the middle of the island?? What did you think?

“Out of the three kitchens we’ve seen to day this is the one I don’t want to sit in… it needs a big injection of soul,” Neale said. The wall of timber and mirror? What is that for? The stools were too high too (even though I am so happy they finally bought something cheaper than the usual designer stuff – these came from Aldi!).

Who was your pick from last night’s reveal? Did the judges get it right?

None of them REALLY stood out to me! I did like Dean & Shay’s set up but wasn’t overly fussed on the timber look. The bench at the window was fabulous and the island bench needed to be bigger

I loved Dean & Shay’s kitchen. I think they should have won! That is my type of kitchen. Kingi and Caro’s kitchen is very nice, but too modern for my taste. I didn’t like those herb pots in Andrew and Whitney’s kitchen. I found actually weird that Dean and Shay were the only couple putting the sink close to the stove. When you cook, you need the sink close by. Designing a kitchen, shouldn’t it be the first thing to plan?
Well, Dean and Shay would have made good use of 10,000 dollars. What will Kingi and Caro do with all that money? Maybe they will buy a robot butler for their apartment! 🙂
