Stainless steel bench-top in the laundry?

Thank you so much for all the love yesterday. I had such an amazing day. I am still buzzing! So much to think about and organise and I have a hundred blog posts running around in my head! But this post today was one I had prepared earlier and I love your feedback when I talk housey stuff… so let’s go with this one today… 🙂

I am considering using stainless steel in my laundry as a bench-top. What do you think? I have some gorgeous and special friends who will supply it for me. Do you like stainless? I do! Just love it when you tell me your thoughts. After all, I’m going to be blogging this whole house building experience and you’ll all have a say in it.

Hope you have a great Friday. I’m off to pick up passport forms, do groceries and attend to my overflowing inbox!

Again, thanks for all your support. I promise I will share everything I learn at BlogHer. And who won the $5,000 cash? Anyone know? I hope it was one of my readers!

Oh, congrats on the win Katrina..so well deserved. Love the look of stainless steel in the laundry. I’ve never seen it before…. thinking I must live a sheltered life! Anyway..what about brushed stainless…that way you don’t see the scratches or the fingerprints. 🙂 XOX

I think stainless is great – I like it in the kitchen too – think it needs a fair bit of wood around the general space to make it work and not appear like a butcher’s shop 🙂 passports ohhh fun 🙂 le xox

I love the look and the idea of stainless steel bench tips but do they scratch easy?

Love the idea of Stainless Steel in the Laundry – also am in love with the duck egg blue washer and dryer with the stainless steel.
We just brought off the plan and looking at wall papers at the moment – will you be using any wallpapers in your new house?

I have never been taken with the stainless look. It is still such a commercial and sterile look I think. I guess as long as you add some warmth with other fittings & finishes it can look good. My preference is always granite. We have sourced fabulous great granite through ebay sellers (companies not private) and amazing prices. We have put it in our last three houses! We are building at the moment too. Don’t you just love it? 🙂

Have never had stainless steel anything, doesnt really go with our antique/vintage/country/everythingwooden style, but LOVED the look of Brad & Lara’s benchtop in their laundry on the block, so I say yes. Do it.

It’s a very sleek look when it’s new but yes it scratches & ages quickly. Go into your local cafe, take away or restaurant & ask to look at their benches. Yes they’d get a lot more wear than your laundry but that’s what can happen. They dint & warp quite easily too. I’d pick something that ages a bit better in the ling run.

    hi Katrina,

We are avidly watching the block again and although I love the look of stainless steel for a laundry , I am wondering if Zinc would be an option? Consider that Dan and Dani did a zinc stair tread. You would imaging that a stair tread would high traffic.
I don’t know the benefits of one metal over the other but your special friends could help you there !!

I love the idea of stainless steel in the laundry, but I too had wondered about scratching! I think it would be workable though.
