Round table inspiration

Hi there! How are things with you?

I have been busy with some little projects around the house, but nothing is quite finished yet, so today I thought I’d share some inspiration and ask you a couple of questions…

I have been wanting a round accent table to go in the corner of a room in my new house, and I finally found one last week (well, I found 2, and we chopped the top off one and joined it to the other because it wasn’t quite right). Then over the weekend I decided to paint it a blue colour and I hated it, so now I am in the process of painting it white. BUT, I really wanted it to be a raw, natural look. However, my husband said “it’s shitty old pine, Treens, so you have to paint it white.” So, my question to you is: how do you make old pine look raw and distressed? Do I stain it? Wax it? As you can see, I am a master at painting things, not taking it back to that raw look… And if I can make it look good, then my husband will truly be impressed 🙂

Here are my inspiration photos (all found on this Pinterest board)….

I also have this urge to fill all the walls in my home, but then I get on Pinterest and most of my favourite images are from homes that let the furniture do the talking, not the walls. What do you think about that? Do you fill the walls, or would you rather keep them mostly (I do have some frames though!) clean and fresh?

When I sort out this round table, I promise I will show you! Actually I have lots to show you 🙂 Last night we made a lamp base out of a huge glass vase – now that was easy and fun!

Have a great day. X

Your hubby sounds like mine, but you can still make shitty old pine look pretty good. Its hard to say without seeing the piece, but If you’ve already painted it, get the sander out and sand it back to where you want it, and then see what you’ve got to work with. You can tint the wax too. I’ve got a pine corner desk that I painted with chalk paint, but just dark waxed the desktop and it looks beautiful (if I do say myself!). If the base is too fiddly to sand, you could just paint the base and have the top natural. Have fun 🙂

You could strip it back to raw pine and then if you want to give it an old look especially if it is a yellow looking pine you could try and just buy a timber stain there are lots of colours available, just stain it and then give it a wax coating, or if the colour isn’t too bad consider using a dark wax to buff it up to make it look old and worn.

Im going to be doing the same to some pine furniture we have. I've researched and the current thing is using 'milk paint'. Porters sell it apparently and You can also buy a range of milk paint created by the woman who has the Ms Mustard Seed blog. It is available in Australia now. The colours are divine and the process seems quite easy, even for me. Looking forward to your show and tell.

I have restored lots of furniture and what I do is use a spray gun, mine is only a cheaply hand gun by Wagner it has been great, the finish is so much more professional than brush painting, I would then sand it off to distress it, if you wanted an off white you could then get a tinted wax or a stain, wipe it on then quickly rub it off to the desired affect . I am looking for a small side table to fix up that I can put in between both lounges

Strip it back to raw pine. Get a plastic bag and fill it will screws, then bash it on the wood. Do a few knocks with a hammer and get a really dark stain and paint that on mixed with water. Then wipe it off with a rag while its still wet and once that dries, stain it with a very light stain and the imperfections should stay dark. There’s a YouTube video called ‘making new wood look old’ and it’s really great

I have lived in my previous two homes with only minimal artworks etc. This time around I have the urge to fill the walls, perhaps not all of them but a lot more than I would usually do. We have so many photographs from our travels it is time to frame some of them up and put on display. I love black and white photography so I intend to do a gallery wall in just black and white. In other rooms I am going to inject some colour via artworks.Agreeing on the artwork, well that’s a different story. Good luck with the pine table. I have been looking for a console table to do up but so far have not found anything worthwhile.

not sure how to distress but what if you did the method I saw on TV once – paint white quickly then wipe off and then sand paper some off too…not too sure?? but looking forward to seeing how you go?

I have a 100 year old console/hall table that someone stripped right back. My Dad bought it for me 20 years ago, and it has stayed this way. I love it, and it reminds me of my Dad who has been gone for 8 years.
It looks old, chippy, distressed and you still see tiny bits of old paint on it. I love it just the way it is.
