Our Yarrangobilly Caves Road Trip

On the weekend we went on a little road trip. I have all boys, so we have to do ‘boy’ stuff! No shopping and morning tea for me ha! I’m not complaining, I love the adventure!
Above is a timelapse video of part of our day (it has sound). If it gets blocked (or you can’t view it properly) you can go to youtube and watch it here. Oh, and watch for the shooting stars in the last part! My favourite bit 🙂

We headed to the Yarrangobilly Caves which is part of the Kosciuszko National Park about 65 kms from Tumut and about 2 and half hrs drive from Wagga.

We stopped at Tumut on our way for pies, sausage rolls, chocolate milk and a big neenish tart (see my Instagram photos for that one!)…

It was freezing! About 6 degrees outside. The road was littered with snow but the day was gorgeous. Not a cloud in the sky. I had my camera ready and snapped about 100 photos.

It’s a tourist spot therefore there are guides and lots of people visiting. Even though it was freezing, there were quite a few people exploring the caves just like us. You could book tours, or do the self-guided ones. We opted for the self-guided as the tours were a bit too long for the kids. This cave took about 40 mins to get through. I have never seen anything so spectacular. There were paths, steps and sensor lights all the way through. The kids were in awe.

About 1.4kms (down a hill and a walking path) was a hot springs pool. We have bits of snow around us, but this pool is 27 degrees! The kids went swimming. No way was I stripping off haha! There were lots of crazy adults swimming too! Ok, so remember I just said 1.4km down a hill?? Yeah, well we had to get back up that hill. Ummmm fitness?? Where did you go? The little kid and I had to stop often. He wanted me to carry him, but I needed someone to carry me! I recommend you only visit the spring if you know what you’re in for when you have to walk back up!

Here I am all rugged up watching the kids swim. I have a swollen face and a black eye (see yesterday’s post) and was trying not to stand out!

Walking back up. I was huffing and puffing and had warmed up – off came the jacket and the scarf!

This is just gorgeous. The scenery was the best part of the day. We’re actually going to the snow this weekend – Falls Creek – so I’ll have some awesome photos to show you next week. Below is a little slideshow with some more photos. I took too many to put up at all once!

Thanks for all your messages about my face! I took the little band-aids off and I have 5 neat little stitches. All good!

Have a great week. We’re in to week 2 of the school holidays and are surviving them so far!

Looks like a great adventure! I think I would struggle up that hill too! My boys have never seen snow…definitely something on out “to see” list:)

It now makes me to want to take my boys to a cave adventure. On another note, I got hit with a cricket ball a few years ago and the stares that I got with a black eye with hilarious! Mr B refused to walk with me as people would look from me to him several times trying to work out the ‘situation’ haha

I love your little videos, very clever. The caves look great, I wouldn’t have stripped off either as you do have to get out of that lovely warm spring and dress in the freezing cold air! Brrrr xToni

That looks like such a lovely day. I want to go there. Beats Ban-Ban Springs in Queensland where we used to go as kids. That’s for sure. Am glad the healing is healing up well. Mx

I LOVE how you change your blog header all the time but I was wondering if other people like it to change or stay the same?
