Organising, Grouping, Sorting

After my week long posts about organising (and there is another one coming tomorrow over here)… I starting doing a few things at home yesterday as my flu is subsiding (apart from all the green stuff up my nose and in my throat….you are welcome).
I just thought I would share these couple of ‘grouping’ shots I have taken. Things have been strategically placed. You so much as move them a millimeter (I am Aussie remember) and I will know!

The next 3 are in my kitchen. They are of the cupboards either side of the mantle.

The next lot of photos are of little side tables in my family room. There is a point to this post I can reassure you. Keep reading!

POINT TO THE STORY: All of these goodies are at kid-height. At anytime my boys can reach them. I have always had things like this sprinkled around my home. I know some of you will be saying no way, I can’t have them out!
It’s up to you, you know your kids, but if you think you can have trinkets out, get them out! Clear up the stuff that belongs IN cupboards (see Get Organised Part 1) and start filling your home with things you love. Toys in their rightful spots, newspapers in the bin, shoes away… you can do it! It will change the way you feel about your home having a clean, tidy and pretty space.

Oh and come back later in the week when I show you what I do with all my computer, printer, phone cords in my office. Ever wondered where they are? I shall give you the low-down during the week

Katrina xo.

Yeah another mum who has things where everyone, even the kids can see & touch them. I agree with you big time that you just teach the kids not to touch. End of story!!!
Loving your photo's. I am having a sort & store day in the computer/sewing room. It's actually fun….! Ipod is on it's dock & computer at the ready for printing out labels.

Being an antique dealer, I have had breakables all over the house since the kids were little squirts. Never a problem with them mainly my husband who broke stuff. Did have to watch kids that came over for a play date though, they had no idea so had to put stuff away if I knew they were coming! Do you have that problem too?

I don't think I ever put things away from my son- mind you it is so long ago I can't remember lol. I totally understand that things are placed just so & you better not move them a millimeter. I have 3 boules balls on my coffee table sometimes Mr17 moves towards them but gets a slapped wrist:) Your house looks gorgeous Katrina.
Tomorrow's blog by Katrina is helpful but ruthless- she is whipping our butts into action lol.

Hi Katrina, I LOVE the mantle and cabinets in the kitchen, can I ask where you have them positioned? Is that mantle above the oven or anything? Would love another photo, we are building later this year so collecting lots of inspirational pics! Thanks! M

  • Oh Gorgeous Baby

I have put things away (mainly baby presents) but I think its more of a case of having no where to display them or not knowing how to display them without looking like clutter.

I have always had things around at kids height. They do learn not to touch. Sometimes I hold my breath as 2 and 1/2 yo Riley runs past some crystal or whatever – so far nothing has been broken but if it does well that's life. Move on – lifes too short.
