My Blog Design tips from Blogopolis

Thanks to those who attended my class on Saturday. I know some of you were torn between the other class and me… so I promised I would put some of my class here on my blog. Plus those who didn’t go have asked too…

This is fully summarised so I hope it helps and makes some sense 🙂

BLOG DESIGN

Have you put your best foot forward?
Have you set yourself a blog budget?
Have you asked someone to critique your blog?
Do you wonder if some of your readers have moved on from you because they see you’ve lost sight?
These are questions we all ask ourselves. Don’t worry, it happens to lots of us.
The best blogs have a design that meets the needs of your reader. Uncluttered, directional and purposeful.

Here is a checklist I printed in little cards and handed out. Feel free to download to PDF. 🙂

Good luck! Happy blogging!

PS. Share this post around if you can. I know lots of people could use this checklist!

OMG … the commenting section is so true. I love the set up you’ve got … I am not a Blogger but love to leave my views on issues I am passionate about (or not). The set up you’ve got on your blog is so much easier to use. Can’t believe I just read that whole post … as mentioned I am not a Blogger so didn’t need to read it … it must have been the layout, whitespace, font etc the drew me in! BTW … incredible result on The Block last night … was so happy for them all that the debacle of last year wasn’t repeated. Still disappointed for all you guys.

Totally not fair that I had to choose between the two sessions. I would have loved to hear you speak, Katrina, but I am so glad you shared your tips here.

Thanks for sharing. I’ll have to look into setting up my blog appropriately. That might be where Media Maid comes in. You might hear from me soon x

    Thanks Katrina,
Perhaps u can do a tutorial about getting wordpress to listen to you….I have told it what I want it to do but it continually refuses to play ball and when I hit up those wordpress support forums they are very scary and speak rude code language to me… I just created my blog two weeks ago and hoping to get better and better (if I get worse I know who I’m calling Ms Media Maid)

    Hi Katrina,

Is there a particular widget you can use for the social media buttons (like you have at the top and on your footer)?

    • Katrina (author)

No, I’ve coded those ones Imogen with HTML. Soz! X

  • Ris @ On My Mind

Thanks Katrina! When I first read this post, I didn’t have a blog of my own that I was actively using. However, I’ve come back for your tips because on Friday I started a blog. This post has been super helpful!

Hi Katrina, I am a fairly new marriage celebrant and want to set up a blog which operates pretty much as a website (main reason for it being blog-based is that I want to be able to add to it regularly, and for it to perhaps be interactive). Trouble is I’m having trouble setting it up so that it looks professional. I started working with Tumblr, but am now thinking WordPress is probably the best format. I don’t have much of a clue when it comes to setting it up, so was wondering if this the sort of thing you offer? If so, can you give me a bit of an idea of how you work, what sort of cost I’d be up for, etc. etc.

I look forward to your response.

    Thanks and kind regards,

    Felicity Johnston
