My best friend proposed on the Leap Year Day

My best friend of 10 years proposed to her defacto (we called him that as a joke -it sounds funny). It was so romantic and so awesome! He had no idea…

So you know how it’s acceptable for a woman to propose to a man on a Leap Year day? Well she did it!

My bestie, Mel (also my hairdresser, spray tanner and personal stylist!), rang me at 9am to ask “do you reckon I should propose to Kane (we call him Kane-dog) today?” Of course I got all hysterical and was saying yes, yes, yes! How much fun would it be!

Kane-dog and Mel have been together for about 3 years and they are a match made in heaven. They are the same person. They were just meant to be together. Mel has 2 gorgeous kiddies from a previous marriage. However, they are all like one big family. Mel’s ex has the kids 2 afternoons a week and for the whole weekend every 2nd weekend. So all is amicable and Kane just loves the kids like they are his own. It was meant to be.

After 15 phone calls between Mel and I sorting out the in’s and out’s of the proposal she had it under control and planned to take him out to dinner and present him with a love-card and a ring asking him to marry her.

This is soooo them. They never do anything typical. Always like to do things different and I β™₯ it!

At about 5.30pm I get a flurry of text messages from her saying she is so nervous and has the shakes. She said she’s snapping everyone’s heads off and she is sure he’s going to say “forget dinner if you’re going to be so cranky.” I talk her through it and wish her luck!

Oh, and she even rang his Mum to ask her permission! Cute! His Mum was crying!

My husband paced for hours that night checking my phone, checking his phone wondering if she’d done it yet. He did this because he and Kane have a bit of a bro-mance going on. Plus my husband loves a bit of action, a bit of gossip lol! He’s like an old woman.

Finally we get the call… he said YES!

She said she was really nervous through dinner and asked him randomly, “did you think I was going to propose to you tonight because it’s a Leap Year?”

He said, “yeah, maybe.”

She said, “no, that’s silly!”

They continued on…

As dessert arrived she presented him with a gift and said “well I did buy you a gift just because I love you.”

In the gift was the ring and a card that said WILL YOU MARRY ME?

The rest is history….

He couldn’t eat dessert and she said he kept welling up with tears and they laughed and laughed and laughed.

So there is an engagement and I’ve planned the hens night and my bridesmaid dress already πŸ˜‰
