My 5 tips for a successful Christmas

{At home on the weekend}

1. Finish your shopping now. If you can’t get to the shops, do it online. How long have you had? All year. The date just didn’t sneak up on you (lol!). Who wants to battle the crowds with all the other people who didn’t do their shopping in advance?

2. Cull, cull, cull. Now that you’ve finished your shopping, it’s time to get in to your cupboards. My Mum always says “one thing out for one thing in.” How many things will be entering your house over Christmas? Yep, heaps. So you’d better snap to it. I’m preparing myself for a garage sale in the New Year.

3. If you hate packing away all the Christmas decorations, then don’t get them all out. I can’t stand the clutter from too many bits, so I am minimal. A tree (which looks like Christmas spewed on it), some lights in a tree outside and a couple of bits on the sideboard. If you’re like me and hate clutter, your tree will be coming down Boxing Day. To still enjoy the festive season without all the ‘stuff’, watch lots of Christmas movies and listen to Christmas carols.

4. Don’t eat what you’d eat in an entire year all in the month’s of December/January. You’ll regret it when the kids are back to school in February. The world is not going to end and you will not starve just because everyone else is eating all day long for 2 months.

5. Spread some cheer. Be nice. People get too cranky around this time of the year. Your life is not that bad! Don’t worry, be happy.

Happy Monday! I’m off to Melbourne for the day … x

    Great tips! I for one can’t understand the overeating? Parties aside, it’s just one meal on Christmas day!???? I spent some time chatting to homeless Bill yesterday. Puts all the Christmas excess in perspective when you don’t even have a home. The consumer excess is just depressing really. All Bill wants for Christmas is some fresh fruit. Have a good trip to Melbourne. Love the place. #jealous A-M xx

    Very sensible tips. Especially the eating one. I always say to my mother who loves to organise all the food. “It is just one meal”.
    I love the new look of the blog and the photo of you up the top in the yellow is a stunner!
