It’s 2013… So?

Social media amplifies everything. I don't think I've ever been wished Merry Christmas or Happy New Year so many times in my life. You couldn't have sailed through the last few weeks and not be overwhelmed by people's enthusiasm for the festive season due to social media. I saw what everyone ate, who they partied with, what presents they got… I was really happy to hide away from it this year (hence we're still at the beach!). Not because I don't like this time of the year, but I think I the hate fuss and commercialism… I've been too busy instagramming my break away from routine, not all the commercial Christmassy stuff.

You don't need a calendar to make changes in your life. You don't need today's date to push you to make change. I reckon the whole resolution thing is a bit silly. Make the change whenever you're ready. It's important to have goals (I carry a list around in my purse every day), but those goals will evolve when the time is right and when I'm ready to make the next step. Don't make today all about change. You'll fail if you pin your hopes on today being the day to change your life. Make the goals, but don't set your standards too high. Any day of the year is a good time to make change…

This time 2 years ago I was in this same beach house for Christmas and New Year. Some of you will remember. I spent the 3 weeks I was here building, nutting out and designing The Media Maid. We had also just sold the last house we built. I'd just quit my job as a real estate agent and my sister and I had just sent in our video application for The Block. This time 2 years ago I was in limbo. No house, no job, and I was unsettled. I had no idea what was just around the corner for me. I had no idea I was going to be on tv and my life was about to change. All I knew is that life was good, but it could always be better. I always have that little hope inside of me that something big is about to happen. So as I sit here in the same place 2 years later, I still have that feeling… Life is good, but I can make it better. I can't wait to see what's around the corner.

Even though I am not making any resolutions and hoping today's date changes my life, I still wish you all a wonderful and happy 2013! Lets get cracking… X

Ps. My Instagram is FULL of photos, so come over and take a look at what I have been up to…

I agree totally Katrina, never been into resolutions, though I always like to have ideas and plans rattling around!

You sound like me Katrina!! .. Simplify, simplify, simplify .. and don’t go placing great hopes on a silly little date!! xx

Every day is a blessing, a bit of fun is great, but people go overboard ( IMO ). I felt bad this year as we were living btn two places and trying to juggle everything ( work, moving, renovating, kids, Christmas etc ) was a bit of a nightmare .. but we’re on the home stretch now .. settled in our tiny flat and living small. I love it. I hope it makes us appreciate things a little more, being forced to live with less for 6months .. we’ll see…

    🙂
