How far gone are you?

Last week my bestie dropped her phone in to some water. After a lot panicking, drying, sitting it in rice, taking it to the phone shop, it died. Finished. She was due for a new phone anyway, but still has to wait 6 weeks.

Gasp! No way! She had to wait…?

Sooooo, out came the old dinosaur phone. You know, the spare one you’ve kept in the back of the cupboard just in case?

Boy was it a dinosaur and boy are we spoilt these days!

I met her for a coffee and a spot of shopping and I’d forgotten she had the old phone and it rang. She sneakily got it out of her bag and prepared herself for my reaction… “put that away, that is so embarrassing!” We were laughing our heads off! It rang funny, it had a slider thing on it, it had all the individual text buttons and it was u-g-l-y.

No to mention no twitter, no facebook, no internet. Double gasp.

She said “I feel out of touch and I have no idea what anyone is doing!” She loves twitter and facebook too.

I said “Actually, you’re probably heading back in to the ‘real world’ and getting back in to real life with real people.” Then I said “but no way could I do that, nope, that’s not for me.”

She knows I am too far gone. Too far in to the internet world.

My oxygen would be cut if I had no phone for internet. No twitter? No facebook? Arrrrgh!!

So how far gone are you? Obsessed like me? Or could you easily switch off?

Below is a little treat for your phone. It’s an old post I did once and shared but have rehashed it for you today…

You are welcome to download them as your wallpaper on your phone. They are pretty groovy!

Here is how you add them to your phone…

OPTION 1.

  1. Click on the wallpaper you like. You’ll be taken to a new screen. Right click the image and select SAVE AS. Choose a place to save it on your computer (remember where you put it!).
  2. Connect your iPhone to your computer. You will need to know how to use iTunes. Your phone will be displayed in the left column.
  3. Click on your iPhone on the left column and now you’ll see a PHOTOS tab on the top right. Click “Sync photos from” and select the folder where you saved your desired image. Double click the image in your folder and then on the bottom right click APPLY.
  4. Once you have SYNCED the image you can disconnect.
  5. To put the wallpaper on your screen, go to your photos on your iPhone (your library may update for a moment), select the wallpaper and tap SET AS BOTH to make it your wallpaper.

OPTION 2.

  1. Click on the wallpaper you like. You’ll be taken to a new screen. Right click the image and select SAVE AS. Choose a place to save it on your computer (remember where you put it!).
  2. Email the photo to yourself.
  3. Open the email, save the photo to your picture library on your phone.
  4. To put the wallpaper on your screen, go to your photos in your iPhone, select the wallpaper and tap SET AS BOTH to make it your wallpaper.

Those screensavers are really cool. I’m afraid I’m “too far gone” too! To think I went through primary school and probably much of high school without the Internet is a sobering thought! I google EVRYTHING!

My Mum says thank god we didn’t have this in high school… I drive her mad with it now and I’m a grown adult!

I have an old phone with actual buttons and to be honest I don’t really care. I use the Internet enough at home and don’t want to use it anymore than I do. I’m very attached to my itouch when at home, too attached really.

Hubby thinks I am to far gone, sometimes I may agree with him. I try not to touch my phone now after 6pm (but I may get a little sneak in when he is asleep and before I nod off).

I sneak it far too often!

Thanks for adding these again – I had the “laugh through the tears” one on my phone last year when our business hit a real rough patch (which we’re only now starting to recover from) and it really helped me to read it everyday 🙂

      Same here! Gone!

I am SO far gone it is ridiculous. I tweet before a gym class starts and usually once it ends. I hate having to turn it off for a flight. I feel very lost if I forget it when I pop to the supermarket.

      EXACTLY the same as me!

I’ve now had a phone for over 20 years but I am quite happy with my faithful old fashioned one!!!
But don’t take my laptop way or I will go into a serious decline!!!!!!

I am too far gone too, the thought of life without the internet at my fingertips is horrifying. I have re-connected with so many old friends through Facebook and made great new circles of friends through the blog. A big cheer for technology!

I can’t even let dark thoughts like that enter my mind ;o)

Earlier this week I deleted twitter from my phone because I was getting overly obsessed with checking constantly. Still have it set up on the computer though.
When do the withdrawals stop?? 🙂

I used to be far gone, but have stepped back from everything lately. It feels good!

    My vote has been cast.

I am a dinosaur, my phone is 5 years old and still going strong, I think I might look at an update soon, but my biggest problem is that we have no reception where we live so I can only use it when I go to town and then if I forget to turn it off the battery goes flat really quick because it is searching for the network.

I gone far now in my life. By the way, I love all the words there in the photo. Love to download this one. Thanks!

I recently went to New York and San Francisco with no mobile phone. I was too worried about the overseas data charges so I switched the data off and could not get roaming to work. It was fine, spent my time sightseeing, shopping and catching up with friends. There was free internet in the hotel so I could drop a quick email to hubby and if we split up we just met up back at the hotel.

This is prob what I need – a good dose of turning it off every now and then 🙂

LOL…ah the old brick phones that we stash away knowing that we’ll break our phones at some point and need a spare! I brought out my old style Nokia not long ago after I’d smashed my beautiful iphone, and my 2 year old was holding the old brick and swiping his chunky finger across the screen wondering why nothing was happening! Ahhh mate, we actually used to have to punch in numbers on the keys … in, um, the OLD days! Great blog Katrina. I’ve just found it and I LOVE it! Loved you on the Block so I’m glad I can still get a fix 🙂

That is hilarious! Love that! Funny!!!

I love the everything happens for a reason comment. I especially use it when I am driving behind someone very slow! They are potentially saving me from a speeding fine and reminding me to do the right thing. Actually once, one learner driver going especially slow on a rainy evening saved me from hitting an ENORMOUS pothole. Seeing the 7 cars pulled over changing their tyres in the rain made me even more grateful.

Plus, my bestie got swamped by a wave with her iPhone in her pocket and was devastated that she had to wait 8 weeks for her new one. Her dinosaur phone didn’t have words with friends, you couldn’t change the ringer and texting took ages. We are both glad she survived : )
