Have you got the right protectors for your bed?

Brought to you by Manchester Collection.

Choosing a mattress and pillow is a big investment, so it makes sense to protect them to extend their lifetime.

A mattress protector and pillow protector are the basic shields to guard against dust mites, stains, allergens and bodily fluids. They should be the first layer on every bed to prolong the longevity of the mattress and prevent premature updating of pillows. This can not only be costly to the budget, but it also adds to unnecessary landfill when constantly replaced.

Protectors also aid in your health and wellbeing with non-allergenic properties.

There are various types of protectors available. Let’s explore the benefits of the different styles available.

Pillow Protectors

If you want to protect your favourite pillow, a pillow protector is a must. It can take time and sometimes a fair bit of cash to find the right pillow to sleep on at night. It makes sense to protect your pillow when found the right one!

Pillow protectors generally come in the size of your pillow – standard, queen, king and European. While most people wouldn’t sleep on a European size as it’s usually for display purposes, extending the life of these pillows is worthwhile to prolong replacement.

When it comes to the pillows you sleep on every night, they can become a breeding ground for

  • dust
  • dead skin cells
  • dust mites, which feed on the above
  • saliva
  • residue from facial products
  • makeup

It makes sense to protect your pillow with a protector from all of the above. You don’t want to be breathing that in!

Mattress Protectors

Mattress protectors are important for all bed sizes. It can be wrongly assumed they are best for young kids’ beds or the elderly due to accidents. But sweat, rigorous night time activity and even spills from a morning coffee can penetrate the sheet layers and soak into your mattress.

The same allergens above can also live in your mattress. A mattress protector will safeguard your mattress to prolong its longevity.

There are different types of mattress protectors to suit the style of mattress and the needs of your family.

  1. Cotton Mattress Protector

A cotton mattress protector is recommended for latex or memory foam mattresses as the cotton allows for breathability. Latex and foam mattresses can be warmer to sleep on so cotton is the perfect choice to aid in a cooler, breathable mattress.

  • Microfibre Mattress Protector

A microfibre mattress protector is plusher and has low allergenic qualities. This style is ideal for  spring mattresses or for those who have dust allergies and need a mattress protector which is easy to maintain.

  • Waterproof Mattress Protector

A waterproof mattress protector will shield your mattress from stains caused from sweating, body accidents or even spills. It’s hypo-allergenic with a cotton top and waterproof backing. Ideal for beds of all sizes and for all ages.

Protectors are definitely not a layer to be skipped when making the bed. Once you have your protectors will you be glad to have invested in extending the life of your favourite pillow and mattress.
