GUEST POST: Colour Block Your Design Life

This morning I have a GUEST POST from Kristie at Elements at Home. She is an interior designer, a mummy (with another on the way) and has an online homewares store. Check her out! Here’s what she wrote:

So you have heard of colour blocking, you may love it or you may not know exactly what it means but it has made its mark on fashion and its only natural that Design follows fashions lead right!
Colour Blocking : A lot of colour. In bright blocks.
I have to say I have not been successful with colour blocking my wardrobe and as it is I am not sure they make this outfit in what feels like giant Maternity sizes.
Although I long for this look in another 10 weeks I can achieve it while waddling around my house moving my home wares items.
With a little inspiration I decided to try and colour block my Christmas tree…he he…let me tell you it doesn’t work, and actually you will hear Husbands everywhere cry from afar “Are you sure you are happy with that?”
So more Colour Blocking inspiration is needed and this time make it a whole space not a Christmas Tree.
Start with the Outside
You wouldn’t have to tell people your address, you could simply say the burnt orange on the end.
I wonder if you have to get the streets approval if you want to choose another colour.
Consider your Cabinetry
And we all thought agonising over 1 colour in our builds and renovations was hard, imagine deciding on 16 colours and in what order and above or below which other colour…
Your Paint through the house
Don’t forget to Colour block the men in your life.
No! Really My Husband would do it in heartbeat……..Who am I kidding.
Now the Furniture
I can’t help but admire the strength of conviction it takes to order a bright yellow over sized armchair and matching dividing screen.
Your Office, I know I wish too.
Your Book shelves.
We have seen this Bookshelf colour blocking in a few posts over the year but now it all makes more sense.
Your Elephant…..Just making sure you’re  keeping up..;-)
Your Living Space
Maybe just your chairs.
In case I want to try and colour block something else for Christmas I think I will stick to the Stockings.
Have you tried Colour Blocking your Interiors?
Thanks Kristie! So what do you think about colour-blocking? I am a huge fan of clothing, but hadn’t really given too much thought to interiors. So, after this post, now I am hooked! I want some fuscia chairs!
Have a great day x
PS. My enormous giveaway for a blog and facebook makeover is here.

Love the pics of colour blocked interiors! Wish I was brave enough…or had enough money to chop and change when I got sick of it. Will have to try it with accessories 🙂

What great pictures. I have colour blocked my bookshelf, but may need to try another space. Great post. Have a nice day. x

Wow those pictures are gorgeous! I think the elephant can do better than that though! I haven’t really done that much colour blocking expect for my accessories that I used for the races in Melbourne. I would love to try it and am overcoming my fear of colours.

Love, love, love the office, K. Dreaming, again, as if I’d be able to keep the colours in order!!

However, if you can let me know where to get my hands on a colour blocked elephant…

I love the colour blocked chairs, not only great colours but also a great style.

I too agree that it would take ALOT of courage to purchase a yellow couch, I know I could never do that!

Great post Kirstie! Love the colour blocking trend and I guess I have used some colour blocking in my own home – although not with colours with this bright! I wouldn’t mind some fuscia chairs as well Katrina 🙂

Love the post. And LOVE LOVE LOVE that pink/orange outfit. OMG, how cute is that!! Also love the yellow armchair & screen. Imagine how boring that would be if it were all white. Makes it pop!! thanks for the inspiration.

Having a bright yellow inside your interiors makes it cool and very vibrant. Thanks for sharing this post Katrina!
