Floor Plan Friday: Main house plus granny flat

I often tell my Mum and Dad they need to move to be closer to me. I know they are only an hour and a half away driving, but I would one day like them to be closer. And look Mum, I found a solution! šŸ˜‰

Financially I do see the benefit in this – adding a granny flat on the side of a home to blend the family together. Without me going on and on, I will say that seeing as the retiring age is 65 and people seem to be living another 20 years after that you either need to have a large super, or keep working, or live out your days (possibly) struggling. BUT, if you’re thinking of adding a granny flat, this plan could be for you. Of course, it would also make a good teenagers retreat – how lucky!

…Ā an exceptional home featuring a spacious main home with four bedrooms, a double garage and media room.Ā The extensive alfresco to the back of the home is the perfect additional outdoor space for relaxing, spending time with the family and entertaining friends. The granny flat includes an additional bedroom, garage and bathroom with a spacious living area.

What do you think about this plan?Ā I found itĀ here.

If youā€™re obsessed with house designs like I am then I have aĀ stack more over here.

Plus I can give you a hand with your own floor plans inĀ my services list over here.

Happy Friday ā™„ KC.

I think the main house is too small and uninspiring.

I think this is an excellent idea but I don’t like the master bedroom being so close to the granny flat entrance.
My husband and I looked at doing similar with my mum. Our arrangement was going to be mum have the master suite and a lounge at the front, shared kitchen/dining/laundry then another bedroom and ensuite for us and kids bedrooms at the back of the house. Porter Davis had a great floor plan that we adapted but didn’t end up going ahead.
