Floor Plan Friday: Laundry in the garage

Hello there! Back today with another floor plan. Here’s a 4 bedroom, with media room plus study and the laundry is in the garage! What do you think about that one? This is my husband’s favourite. He has wanted the laundry in the garage for years and years. He says they are such a waste of space. I can see his point, but I don’t fancy the freezing winter weather and being in there washing clothes. But I also think I’d do it because it really would be one less $$ amount you need to spend on the build, and you could use that for other parts of the home.

I also like the entry set back. That’s a favourite of mine on house plans. I think houses look so good when there’s some angles to the facade. I also like the media room which opens up outside. There’s no alfresco drawn on this plan but you can make that whatever you like. I’d put a pool up near the living and cover that dining media area. The bedroom could open out to a sunny morning paved area.

I’d put the fridge in the scullery so the kitchen back area looks more streamline.

We don’t need the HWC (hot water system) like that in Australia, so that would just be linen space.

What do you think about this floor plan?

Nope. I spend way too much time in my laundry. I call it ‘my office’. I like having a big laundry in the house, I don’t want to be going in and out of a dusty garage with my clean washing either. Not for me!!

I don’t mind this one … *except* the garage laundry!! lol
I have one now and DETEST it! Would never, ever have one again 🙂

Laundry in the garage is not practical when you live in a cold climate.

Ok any advice welcome. We have a laundry in our large basement. Yes internal stairs but it drive me bonkers!!!!! I never want to go down there and things pile up. We have a few options. Add the laundry to our current kids bathroom…. there is enough room. Make our walk in pantry slightly smaller and then use hallway cupboard as laundry cupboard. Or we have a bathroom in our garage…. access to house via lounge from. ??????

I would extend the garage to accommodate a laundry. This one actually has a coat closet! I generally find Australian houses lack storage space.
