Another round of bathrooms (plus a surprise kitchen!) was revealed on The Block last night.

Check out their efforts below and tell me what you think…

MITCH AND MARK
SCORE: 29/30
It was always going to be a risk turning their top storey into an entertainer’s space designed around an as-yet-non-existent pool. But Mitch and Mark knew they wanted to go in this direction from Week One and never once wavered from their original plans. Their sweeping vision paid off once more this week, netting them a win!
“Our vision for this room started way back when we saw the plans. We thought, ‘Top floor terrace pool house,’ Mitch says. “So we thought if you’re going to have a pool house, you need to be able to prepare food up there, and you need to have a powder room, and also a shower.”
And that’s exactly what they delivered this week, including a stunningly simple kitchen complete with brushed steel gantry, grey benchtop and light, bright cabinetry with brass details. This was delivered alongside a powder room and gorgeous bathroom, which came complete with shower and  yellow feature tile detail. A white decorative mirror and pops of colour, courtesy of the yellow and cyan towels they chose, rounded out the look beautifully.

JESSE AND MEL
SCORE: 28.5/30
Jesse and Mel went all-out this week to produce a luxurious and opulent master ensuite – and boy did they deliver. The couple chose to dress their room in gorgeous floor and wall marble, opting for a huge mirror above the vanity and oversized shower screen for added dramatic effect.
They chose dark cabinetry with chrome fixtures and fittings, which played against the lightness of the walls and tiles beautifully. The inclusion of an enormous double shower and huge freestanding bath gave their room a luxury hotel vibe.

DEB AND ANDY
SCORE: 28.5/30
Deb and Andy produced yet another gorgeous, elegant bathroom, with their trademark coastal luxe vibe. The room, which featured white and cream tiles, a custom-made timber vanity, brass tapware and THAT amazing water feature into the free-standing bath, was a hit with all three judges, who loved the way the room, which also featured quirky features like a decorative Persian-style rug and timber stool in the shower, came together.
The inclusion of two timber wall-mounted shaving mirrors, the timber stool and the large fern added a sense of softness to the room, which was the lightest and brightest of all the bathrooms delivered this week.

TESS AND LUKE
SCORE: 27.5/30
Tess and Luke took out a win for their last stunning bathroom. But a blunder which saw one of their windows remain unfrosted saw them walk away unvictorious, despite the fact they presented a near-perfect bathroom.
In the space Tess and Luke featured a gorgeous black terrazzo tile, two dark grey sinks that complemented gorgeous navy blue cabinetry, a large free-standing bath, double shower, and a textured white subway tile on the main wall. A dark Venetian plaster wall pulled everything together beautifully, working back against the black free-standing stool, placed adjacent to the bath.

MATT AND EL’ISE
SCORE: 26/30
Matt and Elise had a tumultuous week, but in the end produced a gorgeous space, incorporating an extra powder room to their reveal plans for added ‘Wow factor.’
In their main ensuite space they opted for a monochrome look, incorporating shades of cream via their trademark Ventian plaster. They used two large, circular shaving cabinets for dramatic effect, teaming them with a double sinks and a large black vanity and black fixtures and fitting. A large bath stood pride of place in the middle of the room, beside that enormous double shower finished with black trim, and sporting deluxe matte black tapware.

What did you think of the rooms this week?

There’s a new low-tox cleaning product in town! I was sent a batch of Accell Clean to try in my home and over the weekend I gave it a go.

It’s a similar concept to some other popular low-tox products that get flogged on the socials.

I never say no to low-tox cleaners! They are my jam. There is a good reason as to why I don’t clean with super harsh chemicals anymore. You can read about that here.

This one looked great from the start because I could see it’s super affordable, and makes up a lot of product so you won’t be buying it too often. The spray bottles are also large so I don’t have to keep re-filling.

The fun part is the THREE labelled spray bottles you make up –

  1. Light – for glass and surfaces
  2. Medium – showers, tiles and basins
  3. Heavy – grease, ovens and grout

The History

Accell Clean is quite simply the most efficient general purpose cleaner available. It is neutral pH and has remarkable cleaning properties. It has its beginnings during the Exxon Oil spill disaster in the Gulf of Mexico. Used extensively in the clean up of Oceans, and shore lines- to clean wildlife, beaches, ships and rocks. The cleaning capability of the product was proven to be exceptional and it carries approval for use in Oceans by the International Maritime Organisation (IMO)! A clear approval of its environmental status.

  • Accell Clean is safe for you, your pets and the environment. 100% all the way!
  • Accell Clean is safe on every surface.
  • Accell Clean cleans deeper and better on more surfaces than any other single product.
  • Accell Clean is fantastic value- saving you money.
  • Accell Clean has does not contain Fragrance, Colour, Solvents, Alcohols, Esters, Enzymes, KOH or pH alterations.

So, because there’s no fragrance I opted to add a few drops of essential oils to mine (because I ALWAYS clean with essential oils!).

I added a few drop of Peppermint to the LIGHT spray and a combo of Lemon and Tea Tree to the MEDIUM bathroom spray.

I also went crazy on cleaning my oven with the HEAVY spray. As you can see the grease lifted immediately. Got to be happy with that.

Here’s what I found

  • A big yes for windows, mirrors and even pool glass (use a microfiber cloth)
  • Yes for the shower tiles (I don’t have shower screens, so can’t tell you that one)
  • Yes for the grime in the bath
  • Was great around the toilet edges
  • Perfect job on my kitchen benches (don’t ever spray chemicals on your food areas!!)

How to buy

The starter kit is $88 which is what I have and I suspect that will last me a good 6 months.

Then I looked in their shop and saw a batch of mould cleaner. That would be awesome I reckon. I’ve written before about why you shouldn’t use bleach to kill mould. So this low-tox product is tested to work.

I also see a Grout Restore. It will remove calcium scale and hard water water mineral build up off tiles, glass and grout. Sounds like that could be good for shower screens and tiles too.

Go check it all out! I am actually really loving it so I will stay with this product for a while. Not just saying that. I feel like this is my new thing.

GIVEAWAY – 10 packs!

I want to give YOU the chance to try some. You can simply enter by answering this question below…

WIN an Accell Clean Starter Kit valued at $88

Good luck!
Comp ends Thursday 19th September 2019 at 5pm. Winners will be drawn randomly and will be asked to provide address to be sent the products directly from Accell Clean.

A clean house makes me feel calm. As you know I love to declutter and find new homes for décor that no longer serve a purpose in my house. When spring comes around, I find the new season highly motivating to give my house a good clean.

But cleaning is not something I want to fill my non-working hours with. As you know, I’ve been working full time and it’s meant I don’t have a lot of time to clean the house like I used to. I’m all for a hack or two to help keep the house clean, so I thought I’d share these spring cleaning shortcuts with you if you’re a bit time poor like me, but still want a clean house.

Do a little cleaning everyday

If you have the time to do an all-day cleaning session, go for your life. I will envy you. But taking time out each day to clean one area of your house will take away the overwhelm to do all the areas at once. Write a list of the areas you can clean in 15 minutes per day and set a timer. You may be surprised at how much you enjoy the challenge. Imagine how amazing your house will look after a week!

Invest in making your own cleaners

As you know, I’ve made a big change in the way I clean my home by making my own low-tox cleaners. There are so many benefits to making your own cleaners. They are usually much cheaper to make and the best shortcut of all is if you run out, you don’t have to wait for your next grocery shop to buy your cleaners. You will have all the ingredients on hand to make a new batch.

Utilise a Multipurpose spray for all areas of your home

There are so many cleaning sprays available to clean this surface and that. One of the best shortcuts to cleaning your home is reducing the amount of sprays for different purposes, and investing in an all-round multipurpose spray which can be used on most surfaces of your home. I have a recipe here for OMFG Miracle Spray which can clean just about EVERYTHING in your house.

Get the whole family involved

I’m not the only one who lives in our house and all the cleaning shouldn’t be left up to me. Get your kids involved by giving them jobs like unpacking and putting a cleaner through the dishwasher, helping with the yard, cleaning their most used bathroom. Many hands make light work.

Use magic erasers on walls, door knobs and anything that needs a good scrub

Magic erasers are magic. Make the foam damp and scrub away. There are many uses for them in the home, but my favourites are on walls where there are marks, door knobs where there are dark finger prints and they can be used to remove scuff marks on floors.

Outsource to appliances where you can

You may not be able to afford a cleaner or you may choose not to have someone else in your home. Why not invest in an appliance which can keep your floors vacuumed and washed for you? The Deebot Ozmo 900 Robotic Vacuum is amazing and can be set while you’re out at work.

Use Dryer Sheets to dust your furniture

If you need to give your furniture a good dust, use dryer sheets to remove the dust. The dryer sheets can also help your furniture repel the dust for a while. This is an easy shortcut for the kids to get involved in.

Use Toilet Fizzy Bombs to clean the toilet bowl

The bottom of the toilet often needs a deep clean at times. Make your own toilet fizzy bombs and let it do the cleaning work for you. You can learn how to make your own here.

What spring cleaning shortcuts can you share that have helped you keep your home clean?

The All Stars popped in the The Block last week and helped the couples produce some pretty awesome bedrooms.

Check out their efforts below and tell me what you think…

Mitch and Mark / Alyssa and Lysandra
Score: 27/30

Mitch and Mark – with the help of Block Allstars Alyssa and Lysandra, managed to create a simply stunning room this week, despite the fact they flipped the architect’s plans again, changing the space to become a huge master suite, complete with walk-in robe and ensuite, connected via a private corridor.
“This room is the grand statement of what we’ve done. The Masterbedroom is the owner’s sanctuary,” Mitch said ahead of Reveal.
The judges loved what they did – especially their statement ceiling, complete with that amazing pendant light.

Tess and Luke / Josh and Elyse
Score: 28.5

Queenslanders Tess and Luke paired with previous Block champs Josh and Elyse, whose understated and chic fingerprints were all over this stunning, pared-back “Scan-deco” guest bedroom.
The hero of the room was undoubtedly that beautiful wooden feature wall, which worked beautifully with the dressed bed in blush pinks and greys, the dark grey walls, light grey fitted robes, study nook with wire-framed chair, and the beautiful suede ottoman at the foot of the bed.

Deb and Andy / Josh and Jenna
Score: 29.5

Deb and Andy – with help from Block mega-champs Josh and Jenna – went all-out this week to present a stunning guest bedroom. And they were rewarded with a win! Courtesy of that controversial bonus point.
As Deb explained, this week the couple from country New South Wales were attempting to “not just create a look, but also a feeling.” And they certainly did that – the judges fell in love with their simple yet sophisticated guest bedroom space.

El’ise and Matt / Ronnie and Georgia
Score: 29

The addition of Perth super champs Ronnie and Georgia really spurred this year’s Western Australian contestants on this week, and they stepped up their game to reveal a simply stunning guest bedroom. This week the couple effectively created a second master, choosing to add AM and PM wardrobes and a connecting ensuite, giving their house the option of a second main bedroom space.
And it was a master stroke – almost winning them the week, if Andy and Deb hadn’t used their pesky bonus point.
The judges loved their room, which featured that bold, art-inspired Graffico feature wall, blush pink walls, a burgundy bed styled in greys and greens, marble side bench, soft, grey occasional chair and circular side tables. A black grid-formation mirror, black wardrobes and black details on the furniture tied everything together, making a dramatic, opulent and sumptuous guest bedroom that the judges liked a great deal.

Jesse and Mel / Deanne and Darren
Score: 28.5

Jesse and Mel, along with their All Star teamsters Dee and Daz, presented a beautiful guest bedroom, which, as Jesse explained, was all about “effortless luxury.” They included a recessed slate-grey velvet bedhead, which complimented the blush pink linen, the dark-coloured wardrobes, that large circular floor rug, the round side tables, and simple brass wall sconces.
The judges like what they had done.

If you’re planning to sell your house, you will come across a number of articles detailing the must do’s and must nots when putting a home on the market. The lists can sometimes be overwhelming and require extra expense to ensure you get the best price for your home. But if there is one tip that can guarantee further interest in your home, it’s including a floor plan in the online listing.

Most research for property buying is done online before a foot is set through the front door. While stunning photos of a well styled home on the market are mandatory to stimulate interest (and hopefully an emotional high offer from a buyer – one can dream), including a floor plan adds more value to the listing. Adding a floor plan when selling your home allows a new buyer to consider if the property layout will suit their lifestyle.

The flow of the home and location and distance between rooms can help buyers decide if the house is going to suit them. Is it a property they can start a family in or raise a family in? Having bedrooms next to the master bedroom may be ideal in the early baby years, but will it suit a family of teens at home? A floor plan can help buyers answer these questions. It also ensures the right buyers are directed to your listing.

Floor plans also give buyers a chance to dream of ways to change the layout if the existing floor plan isn’t suitable. Maybe the kitchen is tucked away behind a dining room, but the dividing wall could be removed for an open plan style home? Floor plans help buyers consider if their own plans are viable for a property.

Why you should include a floor plan in your online listing?

A floor plan is a key selling tool for a property listing. It not only draws buyers in, it can attract new buyers looking for a specific layout to suit their needs.

Including it with the photos of the property online will help de-personalise the home, allowing the buyer to imagine how their furniture and style will suit the layout of the home. It helps the buyer to visualize how the property flows before they walk through the front door.

How to include a floor plan

If you built your property, or recently renovated, you may have floor plans ready to give the real estate to include in your property listing.

If have an older home, your real estate can organise a plan drawn for you. Ensure the rooms are named to help buyers navigate what room should or could be what.

If you reflect on your own experience when purchasing a property, you would know how valuable the floor plan was as part of your research.

I feel like outdoor wall lights have come a long way in the past 5 years. It was very hard to find anything decent. Mostly you could get a black, cream, green or white coach light and that was it! I love the look of some of these, and really affordable. You could switch yours which would give a boost to your facade quite easily.

Spring is here and I love nothing more than to embrace the new season by making some changes in the home.

While winter has its place with cosy blankets and textured cushions to add warmth and comfort, spring offers an opportunity to introduce some lighter textures, colour and even natural beauty with a new plant or two to celebrate the change in season.

It’s so easy to update your home for spring. Here are 6 ways to update your home for the warmer weather.

1. Bring in the Greenery

This tip is easy and if you’ve been following the blog for a while, you know I’m an advocate for plants inside the home. Spring is ideal to add a few new plants to the home. They offer colour and can help clean the air after being closed in for winter.

Some favourites to introduce to give a spring like feel are Monstera Deliciosa and a Peace Lily. If you’re not sure which plants to bring into your home, this list of 10 plants which are hard to kill may help.

2. Lighten the textiles

Thick wooly blankets and faux fur cushions can be swapped with cotton throws and crochet cushions. Remove the heavy table cloth and use placemats instead. Lighten the textures and textiles in your home as it will re-freshen your home for spring.

3. Fill empty corners with fresh flowers

The garden is often a buzz with colourful life in Spring. Bring the flowers inside and create your own posy to fill empty corners of your home. The colour and texture can bring new life to your interiors. It’s also an affordable update anyone can do.

4. Paint furniture

A fun way to add some colour to your home is painting furniture in a new hue. Repurpose an old chair or give a side table a fresh coat of paint in a bright colour. Try olive or cobalt blue for a different look.

5. Add wallpaper to a blank wall

Wall paper can make a striking impact to a blank wall. For a fresh take on spring interiors, why not go all out with a mural or chintz print?

6. Change an existing artwork

Often swapping cushions and throws, or adding a new coloured piece of furniture can throw off the existing artwork in your living area. Why not update existing art using your own supplies? I show you how in this post.

How do you update the interior of your home for Spring?

It was bathroom week on The Block and some impressive spaces were revealed last night.

Check out their efforts below and tell me what you think…

TESS AND LUKE
SCORE: 28/30
Tess and Luke were the only couple so far yet to win a room. But they pulled out all the stops in their main bathroom, delivering a stunning, modern, spacious bathroom with a speckled mosaic feature tile that had SERIOUS wow factor. The space featured double basins in matte grey, brushed-steel tapware, a gorgeous free-standing bath under the skylight, two oblong shaving mirrors, pops of burnt orange in the choice of towels and a stunning strip feature light. Darren loved the couple’s choice to place the free-standing bath beneath the skylight, and the fact they’d included a lovely architectural roof line to accentuate the space.

EL’ISE AND MATT
SCORE: 26.5/30
El’ise and Matt went the extra mile this week, flipping the architect’s plans to make way for an extra ensuite for their second bedroom. It was a stroke of genius, utilising as it did the natural light source from the void skylight adjacent. Their room featured three beautiful tile choices – one in a gorgeous blush pink – double vanity, circular shaving cabinet mirrors, black chandelier, marble imprint tiles, and a double shower positioned exceptionally well below those massive skylights. All three judges loved the glass window and the use of skylights. The one thing they were all unanimous in their praise of, was the generous proportions afforded in what is, effectively, just an ensuite.

MITCH AND MARK
SCORE: 24.5/30
This week Mitch and Mark went against the grain, once again changing the architect’s plans to include an ensuite for their third bedroom plus a stylish, practical laundry.
The judges were fans, especially Darren who thought their decision to include this on the second floor was a stroke of genius. Shaynna also appreciated what they’d done, but couldn’t shake the feeling they had minimised their space by choosing to enclose the laundry behind those bifold doors – the boys disagreed. Next door, in the ensuite, the judges were once again impressed with the finishes, and were particular fans of the oversized shower head, the wooden custom-made vanity, use of that stunning Beaumont chevron white tile, and the heated towel rail.

JESSE AND MEL
SCORE: 24/30
Jesse and Mel went to extra lengths this week to present their master bathroom and matching powder room, which they both think will appeal to the high-end buyer they’re desperate to lure. The couple used travertine-look tiles, a sleek black vanity, those hanging drop pendant lights and the absolutely enormous double shower – complete with custom-made shower block for sitting! Shaynna loved the towel choice, and the fact they’d chose to incorporate a ladder-style heated towel rail. And while Neale admitted he wasn’t a fan of the separate powder room, Jesse still stood by his decision.

ANDY AND DEB
SCORE: 22.5/30
Andy and Deb went all-out to present a gorgeous, relaxed and ‘coastal luxe’-style main bathroom, while at the same time referencing their gorgeous ensuite from week one.
And they knocked it out of the park. The couple’s choice of wooden accents went perfectly with the gold fixtures and fittings, including that sweet copper pendant light, the natural wooden stool next to the stunning free-standing bath, the use of woven baskets as storage and the choice of persian rugs and textured, patterned towels as accents. The pop of colour, courtesy of the potted plants, also added a point of difference. All three judges loved the use of smart technology in the space, admiring the way the couple had used Alexa to create a mood in the bathroom and operate the shower and bath.

I get emailed all the time about finding smaller house plans. While I do love the large, complicated and fancy plans (because of the draftsmanship), not everyone builds those big custom homes.

Here’s a 3 bedroom home which has an excellent layout for the down-sizer or small family. It’s a great first home and would fit a smaller block, or could even be used as a unit.

You’d need to pop an outdoor alfresco on the back.

There are other sizes and variations of this plan over here on the original source.

What do you think about this one?

You must check out all of my other favourite floor plans (there’s so many!).
