DIY: Paint a set of OARS

Howdy! A while ago I bought a set of oars for $25 from a junk shop. I knew I could give them a new lease on life. A sand and some paint and they’d fill a spot on a shelf.

They weren’t looking so fabulous when I bought them. They were a bit scabby. I had seen some painted oars on Pinterest, at Fenton & Fenton, and Oz Design even have some, but I knew I could fancy up a set myself without paying the big bucks…

Look at those yellow handles! Ewww.

I sanded back the middle section. I left the black on the bottom. That was going to work for me.

I made a huge mess on my back table for a few days. I masked off the pattern and painted little sections in white and a little bit of pink on the handle. I didn’t want them to be identical, but I wanted them to be similar. I also primed the yellow handles first, then put black over the top. Then I got my sander out again and roughed over the newly painted areas so it wasn’t so neat looking.

And now they are done!

I’ve propped them up in my good lounge room on a shelf next to the hanging tv. I have moved them around a bit so I am not sure where they will actually end up. But I am happy with them for now.

Love a good bargain and an easy project!

They look fantastic Katrina! I’ve been looking for a pair for ages, but they are always so expensive when I see them.
