DIY: Chalkboard wall in the laundry

instagram

On the weekend I decided to smash out a mini DIY project – a chalkboard wall! Ummmm yes, I am sure some interior designers will be saying “please no more chalkboard” but I love it so here’s a huge wall I painted!

This wall is in my laundry. It’s a HIGH TRAFFIC area and the door on the left is the garage and the door on the right walks straight in to my kitchen. We walk through this little area 100 times a day.

I had mentioned to my husband a few weeks ago that the wall was getting marked with hands and bags and I said I’d have to paint it again. Instead of repainting it white (only to have it marked again in a few months!) I thought why not paint it black – and chalkboard! This would be a fun spot in my home. My laundry is large with a storage room, so I guess it could be like a mud-room… Plus it’s a very bright room with lots of natural light so it could handle a black wall (don’t paint black if you don’t have enough light there to start with as it throws it’s own dark shadows).

Anyhoo, my husband offered to help and we both took turns painting…

I used the Dulux brand above. Now the can said this 500ml would do 4m2 with 2 coats, but NO that wasn’t enough and I had to go back and buy more! So I would recommend that if you have a wall of my size you will need a 1L tin.

Two coats later and then I let it dry overnight…

There we go! A quick little transformation in a high traffic area, plus it’s practical and fun!

Do you have a chalkboard wall? Or do you plan on doing one?

That looks so great! I’m loving the contrast when you look through to the rest of the house. Which is EXTREMELY neat, by the way. I do hope you had to tidy up just a little before you took the photos. 😉

This is beautiful, I wanted it in our kitchen area and will serve as a reminder board on what we’re going to do. Thank you for sharing this one.
