Brought to you by Early Settler Furniture.

Recently I was lucky enough to choose a few goodies from the new rug collection at Early Settler Furniture to photograph in my home. Choosing a floor rug can be so tricky! I often have clients who find it so hard to find the right size, colour and texture. The most comment mistake of all time is choosing floor rugs which are too small for the space. Luckily Early Settler Furniture have some bigger sizes which I was more than happy to pop in my home to show you.

Come and check these styles out…

Above is the Nomad Nature hand woven black and natural jute rug. Made from all natural hard-wearing jute, the Nomad Nature rug’s delicate ethnic pattern will add an exotic and contemporary edge to your living room. Hand woven in India using neutral tonings, this rug will fit perfectly at home in a living room, bedroom or home office. It’s 240 x 300cm and I consider that to be a very large size. It was so heavy and thick (it took two of us to lift it!) so it’s definitely great quality and worth the $999 price tag. I would say that the natural tone is a little more yellow looking in my house than expected, but still very neutral.

Next is my favourite (which I have purchased to keep because I was in love with it so much!) – the Bohemia Zig Zag wool rug. Embrace your inner Boho with this contemporary and of so stylish new season’s floor rug. Hand tufted in India from a blend of wool and cotton, the classic zig zag pattern and dual colour fringing will add an instant burst of freshness and style to a room. It measures 120 x 180cm so it fits perfectly at the end of my bed. The quality is excellent and it feels great to walk on. It retails for $399.

Here’s a very popular style which suited my house perfectly. I love the colour of this one. It’s the Pebbles Hand Woven Wool rug. Add a layer of sophistication, warmth and texture to your living space with a beautifully, handwoven floor rug direct from India. This large format, wool blend rug takes on the illusion of pebbles on a riverbed with its delicate grey and cream textured weave creating the perfect frame for a contemporary interior setting. Again, it’s a large size at 240 x 300cm and fills this room from edge to edge. It sells for $999.

A sweet little addition to any spot in the home is this Cochin Hand Stitched Cable rug. I thought this was so cute. It’s got a very nice grey tone to the colouring and isn’t as brown as other’s you see on the market. Add a delicate and feminine feel to a room with this pretty pastel handcrafted round rug in Sable made from 100% jute. Hand-stitched and made in India, this affordable choice will give a room a soft, pretty glow. Ideal for a bedroom, pair it with romantic bedlinen and floral fabrics for a modern take on boho. It’s 120cm and sells for $199. I moved it from room to room because it’s so versatile.

If you’re after something with a nice pattern and lots of texture then you’ll love this Nomad Diamond hand tufted grey and white rug. It’s pretty special and you will not be disappointed with this one. Add an authentic Moroccan feel to your living space with this refined but hard wearing, wool blend floor rug. Hand tufted in India in subtle neutral tonings, the classic diamond trellis pattern will add a rich ethnic feel to both contemporary and more traditional living and bedroom settings. It’s a large size 240 x 300cm and retails for $799.

Here are some tips when choosing a floor rug

  • Think about its purpose – ie. is it to define a space or just make a statement?
  • Rugs anchor a room and infuse it with personality, style and warmth.
  • They can be costly so research is key.
  • Measure your room and make sure the rug is big enough.
  • Think about the colours – do you want a block colour because the room is busy enough, or could it use some texture and patterns in the space?
  • Think about shape. Would you prefer round or rectangle? If you’re choosing rectangle make sure it’s big enough to slide under some of the main pieces of furniture.
