Checking in…

Hey gang, just checking in. I’m ok. Thanks for all your emails and messages. It’s been a long couple of days…

Yesterday I fasted all day and took picoprep overnight for a colonoscopy today. If you’ve had that, you think you’re going to die sometimes. So I only got to eat finally tonight. I’ve been pumped full of antibiotics and fluid for 2 days.

I have a nasty big abscess which needed draining and some other bits sorted out whilst under anaesthetic today. I won’t share the gory details! I’m as groggy as hell and as usual I like to scare everyone when I tell them I’m going to faint. I have become a real fainter since having kids! No idea why. Low blood pressure most of the time…

Anyway, I’m off to catch some zzzzzzz. Home hopefully on Sunday. X

Just caught up on your news re: your operation. What a bugger. Hope you are on the mend now.

I’m a few weeks off having a laparoscopy for endometriosis and have to have picoprep beforehand. My cousin’s wife suffers from Crohn’s so she has given me lots of tips!

My husband was diagnosed with Crohns 15 years ago and it has been hard to watch him suffer through that time. We moved to Wagga from northern NSW 18 months ago with our 3 kids and we are struggling to find the medical support he needs in this area. He had an awesome specialist in Brisbane but now it is such a long way and expensive to travel, besides the time factor! When you are feeling better from your op, would you be able to recommend a doctor and or specialist who is good with Crohns? I’ve almost stopped you to ask when I’ve seen you in Wagga but didnt want to invade your privacy, so it was great to find this blog! Pardon the novel!!!

Hi Liz, thanks for coming over to my blog. I’m sorry to hear about your husband. I have lived in Wagga for about 13 yrs but moved my care to Melbourne 2 years ago. I did this because I was too hard for Wagga, and Wagga’s specialists are far too busy. They cover such a vast area and I didn’t feel anyone was really interested in me. I have a friend who goes to Canberra though – it’s a little closer. I also have seen a Doc in Albury. Hard to know what to do when you live in a regional area. happy to help further if you need more!

Wow Katrina, I wasn’t expecting such a quick reply, thanks so much. We’ve had similar experiences with doctors in Wagga and we had our hopes pinned on a visit to Canberra just this week which turned out badly (long story) so probably not the same place your friend goes to! Would be grateful for the names of any doctors whom people have found to be good but also wonder whether it’s ok or not to name them publicly in this forum?? I hope you are recovering well from your op, with thanks and best wishes to you 🙂

Haha that’s ok Liz! It’s my blog so I sort of hang out here lots. Meant to say happy for you to stop me in the street if you want!
I see Dr Sally Bell at St Vincent’s Melb. She’s my main doc. Highly recommend her. She is a lovely lady and very straight to the point. She even lets me email and text her! I also see Dr Stephen Brown. He does a lot of my trials – but is a really good guy. let me know if you need anything else.

That’s exactly what my husband’s specialist was like in Brisbane, texts and emails included, so great to have that kind of care! Many thanks for your help and for being so lovely Katrina 🙂
