Buff the scratches out of your floorboards!

I have some minor scratches on my floorboards from a kitchen stool (I have since tossed it!). It’s very hard to get photos of a floorboard close up! But you can see below some little scratches.

I wanted to buff this area up. Now, let’s be realistic, you can’t actually completely fix these scratches, unless you were to sand and re-coat the floorboards, BUT you can add moisturise, shine and hide them all pretty well with a simple clean.

What I used

I grabbed these trusty staples in my house >>

  • Vinegar
  • Fractionated Coconut Oil (you can use any oil really, but I prefer low-tox so this stuff is the best!)
  • Paper towel

The how

  • Mix in a bowl 2 parts oil to 1 part vinegar.
  • Dab on a piece of paper towel and rub all over the area.

I partitioned off the space (because my boys would stomp all over it). I actually left it like this for about 3 hours! Wipe it all clean with paper towel and a wet sponge. Followed by a dry tea towel where I buffed the area until it was clean and shiny again.

I tried to get a photo of the exact same area so you could see the difference. I’m happy with how it worked. 🙂

This job only really took a few minutes of my time!

Wow this timber flooring is so beautiful. What type of timber is this please and what stain did you use?
