At home: Savvy hacks with The Reject Shop

Brought to you by Nuffnang and The Reject Shop.

Have you been to The Reject Shop lately? I pop in and out frequently as it’s right next door to my local supermarket. Every time I visit I always discover something new and different to buy. How can you not when it’s such a good price?!

Last week I was given a challenge to get creative and savvy with their products and use them for things other than what they may appear. I was totally up for that and I off I went shopping with my little basket in hand…

Here’s what I purchased. My mind was ticking over as I brought them home and popped them on my kitchen bench…
1

What I purchased:

  • Mason jar mounted to wood – $8
  • Bread board – $12
  • 2 x small light globe vases $5 each
  • Gift tags – $3
  • Paper straws – $2
  • Bathroom door hook – $3
  • LED party globes – $25

Here’s what I did with them!

1. Use a bread board in the bathroom

16

See, boring bathroom! I have used trays before and I never seem to like them – they’re either too big or too deep.

2

The bread board sits perfectly and looks great. What a bargain!

2. Party lights + bathroom wall hook for kids room

How cute are these lights? I love a good party globe. These clear ones were inexpensive and run via battery so I was even happier when I didn’t have to plug it in to power – this means I can hang them wherever I like.

4

On the back of the wall hook were some metal brackets which I took off very easily with a screw driver.

22 I just mounted the hook with some blu-tak as it was light and could be removed easily if needed.

Such a cute little addition to his bedroom – actually I am going to add a set of these to another room.

3. Light globe vase

How cool are these light globes? I collected a selection of them. I popped the fairy lights (from above) in one of them (the globes on the fairy lights just pop off as they are only plastic). I also gathered some flowers from my garden…

4. Mason jar in the bathroom

Here’s a cute mason jar I mounted to the bathroom wall and popped a few complimentary hotel products in them (who doesn’t love a good bathroom hotel goodie! Ha!). Here’s the perfect thing for them. I loved this once I got it up on the wall. You can use this wall mounted mason jar for any kind of makeup too.

I also love the Reject Shop!
As an almost teacher (qualified in October) I would use the gift voucher to deck out my classroom! I love the idea of dipping mason jars for cute stationary.
A gift voucher would also be helpful to create a rewards box – every teachers way of taming distracted children!

The Reject Shop is fantastic and has something for everyone!
The voucher would allow me to pick up some awesome things for our puppy dog and for around the house, kitchen, laundry and the kids!

I love your bathroom, mine is very similar but unrenovated, could you show the shower and bath part as I would like copy the style x I buy the big plastic tubs (I think advertised as the ones you put drinks in) with handles https://encrypted-tbn3.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcT-c472iHF05AWEK38VFE-gEI8NFVJJrWDj2NKhXTkKO_5d-hY-fA to put our dirty clothes in. They come in handy for going up and down double story houses as opposed to those hard plastic baskets.

I’d use the voucher to get creative with my boys in their toyroom. I’d also makeover our laundry.

I’d use the voucher to re-decorate Miss 3’s bedroom. She getting too big for her toddler bed and we’re trying to convince her that it’s time for a big girl bed – just like her big brothers. She’s not having it and is insisting on staying in her bed. So if we jazz up her room and make it less baby like maybe the big girl bed will happen.

I would use the voucher to buy some jars to store stationary in on my two daughters desks, to assist in keeping the desks tidy so they can actually do their homework there. I would also search around for some bits and bobs to jazz their rooms up. I also love the mason jar mounted to wood and would buy a number of them to put in my study, to keep my desk tidy! I do love the reject shop – I bought some of the replica tolix stools and the ceramic drums they had awhile back.

I would use the voucher to deck out my WIR.
The door hooks would make great necklace holders and the mason jars would be great for bits and bobs like jewellery to.

Love those globe lights, I think I could put them to use around my mirror.

Love the kitchn breadboard for the bathroom idea – I’d use the mason jar mounted on the wood as a vertical herb garden!

I would love to win a voucher to help change up my current homes decor. My house is very empty and lacking colour and fun at the moment. The reject shop has some amazing homewares that i could use. I also love the mason jar attached to the timber i would love to use it as a vase and fill it with gorgeous flowers. Would look amazing hanging on the wall. Thanks for all your ideas. So amazing! X

I would never have thought of the reject shop for home decor! I would love to mount those mason jars on the wall near my kids desk and keep pencils/crayons etc in them! I also love the bread board and would use it in my laundry to group supplies like you did in your bathroom!

Great Giveaway and some Awesome Hacks there Katrina Chambers ! Love the Lights in the Light bulb Jar that sure was a “lightbulb” moment you had there hahaha 😉
Now Imagine me with that bright shiny light streaming into your eyes forcing you to disclose to me where you got that birdcage from !! 😉 LOL

I would love to get creative at the Reject Shop! If I were lucky enough to win this generous voucher I would create a little homework stationery caddy. I would find a lazy susan or a round chopping board and either paint the whole thing or just part of it, using Annie Sloan chalk paint of course 😉 Then I would get some cute mason jars and glue them onto the board, and then fill the jars with pencils, pens, erasers, textas and sharpeners. Then my children will have everything they need on hand and homework will be so much easier….in theory anyways!

  • Tracy Dawson

I would revamp the whole house using some of your great ideas, specially the kids
