I’ve been dying to make-over this coffee table. The dark colour just didn’t suit my house. I was sent a selection of paints from Chalk Paint™ by Annie Sloan (my blog sponsor) and I knew as soon as I saw the colour Antibes Green the legs would look amazing and it would suit my lounge room perfectly.
The benefit of using Chalk Paint™ it that it’s so easy to use – there’s no sanding or priming and it adheres to most surfaces – wood, concrete, metal, matt plastic, earthenware and much more. I knew I wouldn’t have to spend ages sanding the entire table down. I hate doing that part.
I sanded the top though as I wanted to give it a worn, rustic look. My electric sander is the best – I love it! My 12 year old even gives it a whirl…
I wasn’t too precious about how I applied the paint. I used this specially designed brush made by Annie Sloan to achieve texture. The paint dries fast and rarely requires any sanding or priming, allowing me to create gorgeous results quickly and easily. I did one full coat and then a very messy and patchy second coat. With Chalk Paint™ you get a velvety matt finish. It’s a non-toxic, water-based paint that is lead-free, EG-free, odour-free and has very low volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
Then I added Annie Sloan Soft Wax all over the table to achieve a subtle and mellow sheen as well as providing protection and durability.
Above you can see how I randomly sanded the top and then I started adding the soft wax. I then followed up with a soft cloth to buff and wipe off any excess. Using the brush made the wax go on so easy! I have never used a brush before with other wax projects and I’ll never go back – always using a brush from now on!
And here’s the finished product……
What do you think? I am absolutely rapt. The whole family is so impressed (and I live in a house full of boys too!).
Check out all of the colours here so you can start planning your own project!
