8 alternatives to Picnik

So we all know Picnik is closing soon (sad face šŸ™ ). Hands up who used this every now and then? I did! I loved the ease of making a collage. Now what are we going to do??

I decided to do a little research and found these sites below. I have only had a quick fiddle with them, so can’t say I am an expert at them at the moment.

1.Ā PicMonkey – probably THE best and closest match. Collage feature coming soon.

Ā 2.Ā FotoFlexerĀ – a free online tool.

3.Ā PixlrĀ – great effects and editing capabilities. Almost like Photoshop.

4.Ā AviaryĀ – a free online tool with great effects.

5.Ā BeFunkyĀ – a free online too.

6.Ā PhotovisiĀ – will do collages and is free.

7. Then of course you can download PicasaĀ  to your computer which has editing effects.

8. Or Picnik had integrated it’s effects with Google+. You’ll have to sign up for a Google+ accountĀ (go to your photos and click Creative Kit). You can alter a photo and add text, but there is no option for collages or frames here yet.

So at the moment, I feel like I might be using multiple sites to create the one look I am after, until someone tells me there is a better option!

Let me know if you’ve found anything else.

PS. With the closing of Picnik also comes the closing of Google Friend Connect (for non-blogspot blogs ie. WordPress blogs), so the only way to follow me now is via my subscribe buttons on the top right. If you’re a non-blogspot blog have you got your subscribe buttons in place? Have you alerted your readers?

Cruise says thank you for all the birthday messages yesterday. He read them all with a smile on his face. We flipped between the blog, twitter and facebook to read them all. He had a great day! Now we’re gearing up for the party this weekend.

Today I’m off to visit my friend Emma, then return to this computer where I have a hundred jobs booked for The Media Maid. Busy times! Pulling in the staff to help. Love it.

Have a great day! X

Oh thanks so much for this, I was wondering what the alternatives were and hadn’t had much luck finding anything. There’s too many changes to keep up with at the moment!

Hi You must try Diptic, it is an app for iPhone/iPad and it makes making a collage so easy! It costs a dollar I think but is well worth it!

I’ve been using an iPhone app called ‘Frametastic’ which allows you to put photos into frames and collages as well as edit your photos too.
It’s basic but easy to use and I like it so far. šŸ™‚

Great list Katrina, thanks! I have been having a look around as well, and I found iPiccy, which is exactly the same as Picnik in layout and function, unfortunately not as many features, but maybe it will grow once Picnik is gone. Worth a look though.

    Hi Katrina,

How about an 8th alternative? Check out PicMonkey, it’s a new photo project being built by a few former Picnikers so it’s sure to feel just like home. I’m part of the team and would be happy to answer any of your questions and would love to hear your feature requests! Sign up on http://www.PicMonkey.com to stay in the know about our launch date (sooner than you can shake a monkey-tail at!)

    Cheers,
    Jenn
