Top 11 binge-worthy shows to watch on Netflix

It’s no secret I love a good Netflix session. And ever since its inception in to my bedroom, my husband and I race to be in bed around 8pm every night to get our fix haha…. so of course we’ve watched a lot of it! If you’re looking for something to watch over the Christmas break, then today I thought I’d share 11 of my favourite shows. I’m not in to movies because I love a show with seasons that you can watch over a period of weeks. I don’t know how many times I’ve said to my husband “just one more?” Haha…

I’ve watched all of these and it was hard to pick an order, but here goes…

My Top 11 binge-worthy shows to watch on Netflix

SHAMELESS – Comedy based drama. Not one for the kids though! The series depicts the dysfunctional family of Frank Gallagher, a single father of six children. While he spends his days drunk, his six kids learn to take care of themselves. My most favourite show.

THE FALL – Two hunters, one cold, deliberate and highly efficient and the other, a strong, athletic man with a wife. One is a serial killer, and the other is a cop. If you’re after a gripping drama then this one will get you. It’s strange, but so worth watching. I could not stop with this one.

FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS – The trials and tribulations of small town Texas football players, their friends, family, and coaching staff. It’s a nice easy show to watch. I loved the drama and you never knew what would happen next. So much goes on in the small town of Dillon! I loved this one. If you can’t find it on Netflix you’ll be able to still find it online and watch it. Just google around.

NASHVILLE – Set against the backdrop of the Nashville music scene, the new drama revolves around a 40-year-old superstar Rayna Jaymes, whose star begins fading. She is forced to team up with Juliette Barnes on tour in order to maintain her label’s support for her latest record, whose sales have been underwhelming. This was the first series I watched on Netflix and I hardly did anything for days haha. So good! I highly recommend this one. If you can’t find it on Netflix you’ll be able to still find it online and watch it. My girlfriend ended up buying the series from ebay and we caught up that way.

SUITS – While running from a drug deal gone bad, Mike Ross, a brilliant young college-dropout, slips into a job interview with one of New York City’s best legal closers, Harvey Specter. Lots of twists and turns in this show and it moves fast. I loved the pace of it, the acting was brilliant and it’s a really great show to watch. You’ll fall in love with the characters and you’ll feel like you know them.

PRISON BREAK – Lincoln Burrows has been framed for the murder of the Vice Presidents brother, and is now awaiting execution on death row. Lincolns brother, Michael Scofield, makes it his mission to deliberately get sent to the same prison as his brother, and break him out before his execution. This show is a so good. There are plenty of season to watch and will keep you going from days. You have probably seen a few episodes when it was on tv? I recommend you start at the beginning and you’ll be hooked.

PEAKY BLINDERS – In Birmingham just after the Great War trenches veteran Thomas Shelby leads his gang, the Peaky Blinders, so named as they carry lethal razors in their peaked caps, who make money from illegal betting and the black market. This is definitely binge-worthy. I probably wouldn’t have chosen this show to watch myself if it hadn’t come highly recommended via my brother. My husband loved this one. We can’t wait for the next season.

GRACE & FRANKIE – two unlikely friends who are brought together after their husbands announce they are in love and plan to get married. This was so easy to watch. Hilarious, clever and just fun.

BLOODLINE – a dramatic thriller that explores the demons lurking beneath the surface of a contemporary American family. The Rayburns are hard-working pillars of their Florida Keys community, but their past contains dark secrets that they hope remain buried. Paranoia and mistrust build as lies pile up, alliances are shattered, and an unthinkable crime takes place. The tight-knit family’s formerly harmonious relationship deteriorates, and good people are forced to consider doing very bad things. This show has Australian actor Ben Mendelsohn and I was hooked.

BROADCHURCH – Detective Ellie Miller returns from holiday to find that her promotion to inspector was given to an outsider, named Alec Hardy, and that the son of her close friend has supposedly committed suicide. This is a good drama and it takes some twists and turns. It kept me guessing!

THE BLACKLIST – An American crime thriller television series about Raymond “Red” Reddington, a former U.S. Navy officer turned high-profile criminal, who voluntarily surrenders to the FBI after eluding capture for decades. We’ve not long started it, but I can already tell it’s going to be a time-waster because I already can’t wait for bed tonight to pick up where we left off!

What’s your favourite show on Netflix? What should I watch next?

For something quirky try Dirk Gently Holistic Detective Agency. Stars Elijah Wood. Described as sci-do comedy with a violent edge. I’m not usually a fan of this genre but this series is more mystery thriller than paranormal sci-if with great cameos along the way

  • Anita Lane

Just started misfits, different but quite funny, giving it a go

The crown was pretty good too and downton Abbey was awesome

I’m binge watching Gilmore Girls as I never saw it when it was on TV. Sad I know but I’m hooked.
