So Big Brother has begun & my relationship with it

The long awaited and over-publicised Big Brother 2012 has begun…

I’m not sure what my expectations will be yet, but what did you think so far?

Something is in the water in Wagga, as Sarah is from here. As soon as she came on I couldn’t stop laughing! Oh, boy, she has no idea what reality tv is about to do to her life (not saying it’s all bad!). HA! Darn it, maybe I should have auditioned for BB instead?!

I thought the new housemates were very same-same. I was waiting for the multiculturalism, age differences… etc. I guess there is still 4 more to be added tonight, so time will tell.

My relationship with the show?? Hmmmm…. let’s see. Channel 9 want me to support it and tweet the crap out of it, but I’m not sure I will. We chatted and their $50million budget doesn’t stretch to pay me to give them my audience on here and twitter each week. They know my stats, and I’m not bragging, but my blog and twitter does ok! 😉 PLUS – BlogHer told me to price my worth… (see I learned that too when away!).

Anyway, I’ll be cheering for Sarah and I’ll be watching tonight to see who else goes in.

On another note – what do you think of the radical and funky decor??

What do you reckon? Will you be watching?

Michael the first mate into the house lives about 200 meters away from us and we see him all the time at Reading Shopping Center.

I must say only watched 46 mins of it so far and not really impressed it’s no different to Channel 10’s previous 3 seasons.

I love to watch that first episode to see if we know someone!

I was so excited to find out it was returning however I was a little disappointed with the housemates so far. I can see the girls treating that poor Brad kid like their puppet already. I hope the rest of the housemates that enter tonight are a lot older and interesting. Otherwise I’m not sure that I’ll be watching for that much longer.

      Same here 🙂

Good on you for valuing your ‘brand’! They have front expecting you to promote it for free.
On another note I am reading via iPad so am using your new interface…very different and to be honest a bit bland (the interface) not you – very grey!!! Go you though for implementing what you learnt at Blogher:)

Hi Libby, you can switch that on and off as you please. It’s just a standard template. The benefit is for people to read the content, not have to wait for the fancy stuff to load. But if you like the fancy stuff, click off the ipad friendly template down the bottom 🙂

To be honest…I miss The Block. Big Brother will not have me as an audience…might be a good time to knock over a few of my DIY projects!! lol

    Hi Katrina.
I think the Block is a far better television show than BB. I am so far watching BB and am a little disappointed in the lack of older contestants and so far a lot of ‘bimbos’ even that skater girl who is apparently doing her law degree comes off as an air head. I hope the other contestants change the feel of the house and give it some character as very few that have entered have so far.

    • Belinda

I’d like to mention I’m only 24 and the younger contestants are so far very boring to watch.

I think ch 9 led us down the garden path. All those promos with guess who is going in the house and in my opinion, all we got was same old same old. You’ve lost me ch 9.
Also very disappointed that ‘the farmer wants a wife’ looks to have become ‘the bachelor wants a pole dance’. We loved watching farmer as a family but I’m not so keen anymore …
And while I’m on my high horse, Eddie McGuire at the Olympics …. Enough said!

  • Niki

The girls all seemed very samey-same, like you said.
Don’t think we will be watching. Sonia annoys me a little, don’t know why. The first guy seemed to be the one with the biggest personality, oh & the english girl. Glad your back home Katrina. Hope you had the time of your life. Niki x

    Smart move Katrina x

Everybody wants something for nothing…sigh! I think they should put you on the payroll for the tweeting and blogging…it’s only fair!

  • Laura

I saw the first three housemates go in and gave up. No matter what they say it is going to be the same old crapolla.
I am looking forward to Farmer Wants a Wife, but like another post said, it looks to have gone towards The Bachelor territory…

I always get sooo sucked into Big Brother. I swear, I’m an advertisers dream sometimes.
Last night was ok, but the whole secret thing was a bit of a let down. Some of the secrets weren’t that interesting! And I agree, there needs to be a far broader range of housemates. Don’t they remember series one and how diverse it was?
Or maybe people are not keen to audition anymore.
And I actually prefer Gretel Killeen as host.
Either way, I’ll still watch tonight… Time will tell. xx

I couldn’t help watching thinking they had asked all the previous contestants what do you wish happened when you went in….and thats how they have organised this re entry…sounds like a skateboard move. A Big Brother re-entry. I digress as per usual….
Loved the 1st guy, very humorous and hopefully the guys that arrive tonight will get me watching again; just to see who is from Perth. If they don’t suck me in then I am not sure I will be back. I have just found Facebook so I may be spending time there instead.
Was Facebook and social media big when the last series of Big Brother was on. That will make a difference in voting and personal interest I am thinking.
Maybe Channel 9 should have sent someone to cover Blogher, then they would have put you on the payroll for sure.

I am not interested in the new Big Brother at all. They took it off television years ago for good reason. The most I’ve seen of it is, is the image you’ve shared here…cute kitchen, but that’s probably the most amount of substance the show will have. They’ve put you in an awkward position asking you to promote it.

  • Claire

I agree with the other comments. Where is the diversity? It doesn’t represent Australian communities in general. It’s more young 20-somethings that they are hoping will get it on. Having said that, I know Angie, so will have to watch her!

As for channel 9 wanting you to tweet and blog about it FOR FREE…. where do they get off? I’m glad you’ve learnt from the Americans and said no. They should have offered you *something* for your opinion.

    Keep up the good work!

I watched all the previous seasons and to me, this season is the same old. Out of all the people who apparently auditioned, surely they would’ve been able to gather a better mix of housemates! Could’ve made it exciting..

I caught up online with the first ep. Michael is funny, the rest don’t really stand out for anything. Although, Ryan’s twitter has struck some controversy. I think Ryan and Zoe might have their statements come back and bite them, as if they go up for eviction, they’ll be gone early.

Don’t know if I’ll keep watching. Maybe it’ll improve once everyone is in and they start doing tasks? The secrets thing is not a drawcard. Everyone knows who the multi-millionaire is anyway. Plus, none are really great secrets.

    Not liking the decor either.
