Facebook, you’re so strange

unlock

I am still trying to work Facebook out. It drives me crazy some days. I use it a lot and it is useful for promoting my blog, but sometimes I can’t work out why some Facebook updates get a lot of attention and other days it does nothing for me.

Over the weekend I shared a blog post title: My house 18 months ago and now…

Then I started to look at the reach numbers and they kept climbing and climbing and this morning I noticed the post had reached over 21,000 people. Huh? How? I’d be lucky to reach 1,500 some days.

reach

There was nothing special about this post update.

It had a boring lead in title: New on my blog today >>

There were no hashtags, no mentions of other people… nothing really tricky. It was a Saturday, I didn’t boost/promote it. I had a few likes, but not a lot. There are only 8 comments, and 1 share (which is my own share to another page).

BUT why did it reach so many people?

The ONLY thing I can think of is that a lot of people clicked through on that post to reach my blog. So I assume Facebook thought the click-through’s were a good volume so they decided to let people see it more? Which is strange because it takes you away from Facebook…?

So what do you think? Does Facebook leave you stumped sometimes?

Which tricks do you use to help boost your posts?

Do you have any Facebook tips for me so I can get this kind of reach more often?

Reminder: Do you forget about your Pages Feed? I do! Last week I re-discovered this link (derrr). You know how you LIKE so many pages but you only get to see the ones Facebook chooses (or the ones you interact with the most)? Well I’m so glad I decided to use this link more often as I had forgotten so many cool pages. I think I might hang out on Pages Feed every day now. I am rediscovering so many clever people and pretty things.

Have a great week everyone! ♥ KC.

I created lists on FB of all my favourite groups/people which means I get to see all updates not just the ones FB lets me see :/ – doesn’t reach add up how many friends each person has who “liked” your post? (and that’s the number of people you have “reached”)

I don’t think so, or I could be wrong, but I’ve had posts with hundreds and hundreds of likes, but a low reach, so it’s a tricky one to work out!

Facebook does my husbands head In with our business page. He now cannot like or comment as the business on fellow business’s pages on his iPad. It simply doesn’t have the function. Wish FB would leave things alone!

Love the pages feed hint – just had a look at mine – who knew??? Brilliant…as you know most of these things leave me breathless with how much I just DON’T know – so I shall watch with interest the responses from your other ‘clever’ followers. That said; I recently got a lot of traffic to a post that was not thrilling and yet..crickets…to one I loved. I guess the key is to test the waters with similar posts to see if there is a pattern.. or not. x
