Central Park Conspiracy Theory

Today I walked about 1.5km to The Highline. Amazing! It stretches 1.7km and was old railway lines above the city for freight trains. It’s since been handed to the people of New York and a body corporate looks after it. Anyway, google it if you’re wanting to learn more. It was so cool. Got to see parts of the city I hadn’t seen.

Then A-M, my hubby and I jumped on the subway from down in the village (where the Highline ended) up to Central Park. Ok, I’m just going to say it, that subway ain’t for me. I don’t like it at all! Scary, dirty and confusing. It’s my country roots coming out! I’m just not that city savvy at all. Ha! I prefer to walk, or taxi!

Anyway, after the subway we ducked in to Starbucks for some free wifi to load up our instagram photos, and on the way we saw a lot of tv cameras and discovered they were filming Law and Order SVU. They’re not allowed to block the street off so they had security trying to keep the crowds away. It was like a circus. Very cool though!

Next, we decided to hire bikes to tour the park. The ‘proper’ bikes were $28 for 2 hrs! Too expensive. We’re getting knowledgable now and we decided to go with the guys on the side yelling out to us -$15 for 2 hrs. Boom!

The park was gorgeous. The pictures speak for themselves. There are so many corners and little roads. I have some video, but I’ll put it together when I’m home.

But I have a conspiracy theory… Whilst riding around I noticed single men sitting or standing, looking like they were reading but weren’t really reading… I reckon the park is FULL of spies. I’m sure of it. I wanted to see some cool bust go down. But no, wasn’t to be today. But I reckon they’re in there, sitting and waiting.
..
.

Oh, and yes, riding those bikes was hard. I am not fit. At all. I’m really really unfit! I couldn’t stop laughing. I hadn’t ridden a bike since I was 11 years old! I was a bit wobbly and looked like a total tourist. Plus we all got over taken but a 90 year old man! That made me feel awesome. I bet I can’t walk when I wake up tomorrow after all that exercise. And people do that type of exercise everyday?? Oh my gawd. Haha!

Then we walked back to flop on our beds for a while. I needed to shower. I was sweating from areas I didn’t even know I could sweat from! Plus I had massive blisters (a lady even saw me struggling and found bandaids in her bag for me!). BUT, I refused the subway trip home and preferred to walk the 12 blocks! I’m tough 😉

We decided to hit a funky diner for dinner, but we had to be there early because people line up can sometimes start down the road. It was called Ellen’s Stardust Diner. It’s a 1950s diner and the serving staff sing! It was so cool and so much fun. I have some awesome videos. They even sing to you, and one of the guys was singing in my ear – they love Aussies! Ha. I’ll put that video together when I get home.

I’m exhausted today and “deliciously tired” (as A-M says). I’ll be snoring soon. I’ve still got 1 full day and 3/4 of another left. Hmmmmm…. Not sure what we’ll do tomorrow…

Sorry this was a long post, but I wanted to record it all 🙂

Thanks for coming to my bloggy today! X

I know, I’m still pinching myself that I’m actually here!

      • Michelle Hayward

Don’t pinch yourself too hard, though, or you’ll come home with bruises AND blisters! OUCH! I am sooo considering going to Chicago next year! 🙂

Fantastic post K, and such awesome pics. When I went to NY many years ago, I was by myself and didn’t venture to Central Park or the subway, both had bad reputations back then. . hah I played it safe.
Enjoy your last couple of days there, and thanks again for sharing your amazing views of NYC

I have been enjoying seeing your phot feed on instagram and speaking of, not sure what’s going on with the instagram widgets – mine went blank except for a photo from a friend’s feed. How odd! I changed widgets.
    Keep having fun!

I only just discovered it was down and I’m on an iPad so it’s too tricky to fix until I get home. Bummer!

I LOVED the highline when I was in NYC last year…such a great persepctive on the city. And I LOVE the subway (I’ma sydney sider so I’m cool with trains). It’s super fast…and not scary (trust me, I was staying in The Bronx, the subway is coolio).

      I’m a big baby! Haha

What a great post! Central Park looks absolutely amazing! And as for your conspiracy theory theory, I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s true. There’s probably a lot of “strangeness” hiding in that park! Don’t know if I would like the subway either….it sounds a tad claustrophobic….like being at Town Hall station ALL THE WAY! Nope, I don’t think I would like that. Is there lots of security on the subway?

    • Katrina (author)

I reckon there is a whole lot of strangeness going on around here!

I’ve done heaps! But I need to come back to do to more! It’s massive. I’ve loved every second of it too.

  • A-M

Ha,ha,ha, they were spies I reckon. Guess what? The videos I thought I took in the diner don’t exist. I turned the camera off w hen I thought I was recording. No ‘This Is The Moment’ from spunky blue eyes. Devastated. Blind as a bat. Should ave ad my glasses on. A-M xx

    • Katrina (author)

That doesn’t matter! I do things like that! Hahaha. Yep, it’s a conspiracy theory I tell you!
