How far gone are you?

Last week my bestie dropped her phone in to some water. After a lot panicking, drying, sitting it in rice, taking it to the phone shop, it died. Finished. She was due for a new phone anyway, but still has to wait 6 weeks.

Gasp! No way! She had to wait…?

Sooooo, out came the old dinosaur phone. You know, the spare one you’ve kept in the back of the cupboard just in case?

Boy was it a dinosaur and boy are we spoilt these days!

I met her for a coffee and a spot of shopping and I’d forgotten she had the old phone and it rang. She sneakily got it out of her bag and prepared herself for my reaction… “put that away, that is so embarrassing!” We were laughing our heads off! It rang funny, it had a slider thing on it, it had all the individual text buttons and it was u-g-l-y.

No to mention no twitter, no facebook, no internet. Double gasp.

She said “I feel out of touch and I have no idea what anyone is doing!” She loves twitter and facebook too.

I said “Actually, you’re probably heading back in to the ‘real world’ and getting back in to real life with real people.” Then I said “but no way could I do that, nope, that’s not for me.”

She knows I am too far gone. Too far in to the internet world.

My oxygen would be cut if I had no phone for internet. No twitter? No facebook? Arrrrgh!!

So how far gone are you? Obsessed like me? Or could you easily switch off?

Below is a little treat for your phone. It’s an old post I did once and shared but have rehashed it for you today…

You are welcome to download them as your wallpaper on your phone. They are pretty groovy!

Here is how you add them to your phone…

OPTION 1.

  1. Click on the wallpaper you like. You’ll be taken to a new screen. Right click the image and select SAVE AS. Choose a place to save it on your computer (remember where you put it!).
  2. Connect your iPhone to your computer. You will need to know how to use iTunes. Your phone will be displayed in the left column.
  3. Click on your iPhone on the left column and now you’ll see a PHOTOS tab on the top right. Click “Sync photos from” and select the folder where you saved your desired image. Double click the image in your folder and then on the bottom right click APPLY.
  4. Once you have SYNCED the image you can disconnect.
  5. To put the wallpaper on your screen, go to your photos on your iPhone (your library may update for a moment), select the wallpaper and tap SET AS BOTH to make it your wallpaper.

OPTION 2.

  1. Click on the wallpaper you like. You’ll be taken to a new screen. Right click the image and select SAVE AS. Choose a place to save it on your computer (remember where you put it!).
  2. Email the photo to yourself.
  3. Open the email, save the photo to your picture library on your phone.
  4. To put the wallpaper on your screen, go to your photos in your iPhone, select the wallpaper and tap SET AS BOTH to make it your wallpaper.

PS. I have 2 huge competitions on my blog. Vote for me here and you could win $5,000 and Uberkate has given me a Mother’s Day necklace to giveaway valued at $695. Massive!

Good luck! X

New blog designs by The Media Maid

We’ve been very busy in The Media Maid office (aka my house!).

These 5 blogs were finished last week. Click on the pictures to be taken to the blogs to see more. Or there is more in my portfolio on my Facebook page.

I am taking on new clients! I endeavour to answer all your emails within 48 hours. Sorry I can’t be quicker on this, but time gets away these days! I have lots of projects in the wings. So if you’d like a design, book now and I’ll let you know where we sit in terms of finishing the project.

If you’d like to read some of my blog tips about design in the meantime click here or this is my favourite – have you got a site design only a mother could love?

Some of my clients just need a quick freshen up that doesn’t take long, and others like the works. You do get what you pay for. I’m happy to chat to you and negotiate a price for your needs. BUT, everything takes time. To build a great blog it takes a lot of work and a lot of time. I work with more than one person at a time. I also have a friend who freelances for me to get the design ideas just right. So it’s a busy little place!

If you’re not sure what you need I have a few packages here. Plus read my terms and conditions before anything else just to make sure I can do what you’re asking.

Have a great weekend! X

I give you a tutorial on how to edit your Navbar and Pages tabs on blogspot

Howdy!

Today I will give you a quick run down on how to change the Navbar (Fat Mum Slim showed a similar idea here) and centre your Pages tabs on your blogspot blog.

The code you need (which I talk about in the video) is below. Just copy and paste it.

Navbar

#navbar-iframe{opacity:0.0;filter:alpha(Opacity=0)}
#navbar-iframe:hover{opacity:1.0;filter:alpha(Opacity=100, FinishedOpacity=100)}

Pages Tabs

.PageList li a {
margin-right: 10px;
}
.PageList {text-align:center !important;}
.PageList li {display:inline !important; float:none !important;}

Hope this helps! Happy blogging.

Andrew Winter and I

If you’re not up with my twitter and facebook, this photo is for you (but you’ve probably already seen it if you’re a social media addict like me!). This is Andrew Winter and I. Nicest guy ever. We had a ball today (see yesterday’s post if you have no idea what I’m talking about).

Of course I’m wearing leopard print (and standing on my tippy toes – no idea why!). I’ll have some more photos later in the week.

Oh, and I did some tv stuff for Austar’s The Weather Channel. Was fun!

Ok, now I also woke up to find out I got a page 3 (yay!) article in the Melbourne newspaper The Age. Check it out! The online version is here.

Big day today! Love it.

Hope you’re having a good weekend.

To tweet or not to tweet?

Ever wondered whether twitter is for you?

I am a fan of the twitterverse. That’s no secret.

I’m an over-sharer. That’s no secret.

You either are or you aren’t and I’m cool with that!

I can be a real pain in the bum to my in-real-life friends when I start rambling on about twitter. Luckily some of them are already on there.

I joined twitter in 2010. I have recorded 28,000 tweets. This figure comes from my twitter updates, links and replies. This works out to be 38 tweets per day. Wow, I’ve got a lot to say! Who knew? ;)

So what’s it all about?

People can get really freaked out about twitter. They often ask why? Why would you send out a tweet? Who sees it? What would I say?

Is that even something someone wants to hear about? Did I just over-share? Should I say something clever, funny or wise?

And what the heck is a hashtag?

Definition in my words:

Twitter: this is your status updated frequently and quickly. The comments you receive are considered ‘replies’ where you can start a mini conversation about that status you updated. So imagine yourself responding to every comment as soon as you received it on Facebook and on your blog. It’s a combination of Facebook and Blogging but is instant, fast and chatty. You aren’t made to feel silly if you update it saying “I ate a banana” like you would if you did this on Facebook.

Twitter allows you to talk to strangers and jump in on any conversation/status update as you please. You can update your status every 10 minutes if you like. I read once that “Facebook is for the friends you went to school with, but Twitter is for the friends you wish you went to school with.”

I guess before you jump in, you need to decide why you want to tweet.

Is it to meet people?

Is it to promote something?

It is to network?

You don’t need to be on twitter, so don’t freak out if you’re not. It’s not the be all and end all.

However, I will say that a lot of people who visit my blog are from twitter. I use twitter to promote my blog so readers can see when I’ve written a new post. I can tweet out my new blog post and grab people throughout the day to read it.

It’s also a great way to spread news, find out about something and keep up with what’s happening in the world. It’s much faster and efficient than any news source! Plus you can contact companies directly. All big businesses have a social media employee so if you have a drama with a product or service, tweet it out and you’ll be surprised at the response. No company wants nasty tweets sitting out there for all to see.

I also love to stalk celebrities. Shane Warne is soooo bad. It’s painful to read his sucky tweets. But I love it. He ends every tweet with kisses XXX – even if he’s tweeting blokes! Makes me laugh and cringe.

So whether you decide to tweet or not is up to you. What you get out of it also depends on what you put in to it. If you’re prepared to connect and interact, you’ll get it back. It’s hard work to get followers, but it’s all about connecting. If you chat with random people, they will come.

Dip your toe in and test it out. Be real. Have a real photo of yourself.

Do you tweet?

If so, why do you tweet?

Have you had any good/bad experiences?

PS. On the bottom of the comments section make sure you add your twitter handle so I can visit you!
